    Yes. To everything you wrote.

Most "post-modern thinking" is the result of antediluvian Darwinist propaganda, and has made fools of the modern (especially western) people through delusion, deception, and arrogance; along with the abuse and obscurification of scientific and mathematic principal to deceive confuse the laymen.

Most people in the western world think that they are smart/intelligent but are due to their own arrogance are actually "too stupid" to see how "stupid" they are... twisted and ironic.

Yes I agree with you. And something most everyone forgets is that all of our ancestors must have done it right because we are here after all.

Humans are more less just as stupid or intelligent as they have always been.

Modern people are not any smarter or dumber than then our pre-historic ancestors, there is actual science on the subject.

It might seem not seem that way when you compare a month or a few decades to over five thousand years of 'humanities greatest hits collection 2018.' Alas, it is this backward looking view "Ancient Magics," that is usually used to make people dumber and hence come up with the false conclusion that the people of the past had something that those of present do no possess. It's a self sustaining feedback loop, and allows us all to absolve ourselves of our own personal failings by blaming the contemporary dumber world for holding us back.

We might have a bit more vocal ignorant motherfuckers right now, but that kind of thinking leads to even more ignorant assholes not less. Think about this logically, the past was better, the past was purer, people were purer, <insert scapegoat>

    You see where this leads.

It's not really fair to compare thousands of years of cumulative accomplishments (as we do take a few steps forward and a few steps back at times) to last week and come to the conclusion that now sucks when compared to then.

I'm always open for a nice philosophical debate. :mates:

For me, it is hard to believe that our ancestors were "deeper" than us. They didn't have access to all the information and knowledge we nowadays do, so how is it possible at all for them to be "deeper" [thinking?] than us? Human society is thriving due to accessibility of collectively accumulated knowledge. The proof is rather obvious - just look at how rapidly we started to evolve since the invention of writing and nowadays Internet.

There are always people who don't want to think and are not interested in it. That's actually majority of people. But there are always people who seek out the knowledge and share it with everybody, too. So their knowledge helps newer generations take it to an even higher level. That's why today's scientists and people of all trades have greater knowledge to start with and take it to another level.

Maybe it would be more precise to say that the majority of people will always be a bit dumber than the rest. That's why true Democracy is flawed, as someone much smarter than me once said. But the people who think are our driving force and even the dumbest are smarter nowadays than the dumbest from 2000 years ago. So yes, we're evolving.

However, I do think modern society is *generally* still garbage and it is influencing heaps of people to just be dumb drones who don't think for themselves - have no will of their own. It's actually always been like that. Also, lack of empathy and compassion, xenophobia and anti-social behaviour is plaguing us - the people in so called "developed" countries especially. Yes, we have a long way to go to become really civilised society, but I think we *are* getting better at it.

Some day... it seems as elusive as the "Year of Linux Desktop", but it's just an illusion. We are progressing, but it is so slow that sometimes people doubt it's even happening.

    Cheers!

yes, people have more time not to be a grown up,
    and technology makes it obvious.

but we're a pretty immature species, despite what we think.

Where did you get that BS from? (it is a rhetorical question). All science point in the opposite direction. Humans are getting smarter with every generation.

Okay, let's do the math with a not so long ago period, say 1800 (western europe).

    Life expectancy : 75-80 vs 40-45
work for 8 hours a day VS child work and slavery
Cures for pretty much everything VS tobacco smoke enema and Leech
Voting right for women VS wife selling
Multiculturalism VS institutionalized racism (see Drapetomania)

All this to say, we're less moronic than our ancestors and way more than our successors.
    It's called evolution.

    You're welcome.

Dudes, it's all nice and dandy what you say, but you have misinterpreted his question.

Were people deeper thinking in the past?

Or maybe I misinterpreted the question?

As species, we are definitely becoming smarter, I think. But there is always the majority of dumbarses who are pulling us down, that is. The society should fight those, but it actually doesn't. Currently, as it is, it actually rewards those who are dumb psychopaths and those mudaz thrive in it.

@foster911 You're a weird muda [not meant as an insult]. I generally *half* agree with you, at least. You do make a point and then you also don't... weird. IMHO, of course. You're one of those people I'd like to hang out with and discuss shit. One thing that makes people think is the opposing opinions. If you're not compelled to think, you don't.

So having people who oppose to your opinions in your surrounding is good for you. Or at least having some "Devil's advocates", like my wife can be. It can be annoying, but in the end it is benefiting us.

I would say people today have more ability to be deeper thinkers due to basic education, available time and the amount of collected knowledge available from the past a click away. I just think most don't care about deeper thought today, making us today much lazier thinkers over our ancestors, not less deep.

“Men and women range themselves into three classes or orders of intelligence; you can tell the lowest class by their habit of always talking about persons; the next by the fact that their habit is always to converse about things; the highest by their preference for the discussion of ideas.” - Henry Thomas Buckle 1902

Yes, there are people I know who are only able to talk about what others have done - gossiping. Then there are people who are able to talk about "things" other than stupid sports and there are others who are able to talk about ideas - that is things that are beyond this society as we know it, things that are in our imagination. These people are the ones I like to hang with and I think those are intelligent and unfortunately very rare. First ones make me go to the bathroom and the second ones make me bored after a while. The third ones you keep in your life forever, if it's possible. It's interesting that they're usually hard to reach, though... it may be an indicator of something.

Oh so it's about "deep thinking" now.
Good, let's go for some Age of Enlightenment "deeper thinking".

    Deep philosopher David hume :
"I am apt to suspect the Negroes, and in general all other species of men to be naturally inferior to the whites."

    Deep philosopher JJ Rousseau :
"The whole education of women ought to be relative to men. To please them, to be useful to them -- these are the duties of women at all times, and should be taught them from their infancy"

Kant , reaching his apogee of deep :
"this fellow was quite black from head to toe, a clear proof that what he said was stupid"

    Voltaire, deep-thinking about jews :
"They are, all of them, born with raging fanaticism in their hearts, just as the Bretons and the Germans are born with blond hair. I would not be in the least bit surprised if these people would not some day become deadly to the human race."

    You're welcome, again.

sort of like Einstein... and some bizarre thought processes to go with... When his doctor told him to give up tobacco,
