    Thanks Master Tits. To me, variation of a theme is something important to use as a tool when composing, though less as an intellectual exercise and more something that oozes from your pores of inspiration. Any form or modality of creative expression benefits greatly, and if organic and part of the process matters not the least of the genre or medium. A series of paintings or photographs, a line of clothing or of course a short piece (or a long form composition like a symphony) of music can be the means to express growth and change which mirrors and mimics the world around us.

    I played my favorite little shaker that I bought 13 or so years ago. After recording the guitar I used the M930 and played it about 45° off axis to the capsule. Due to every microphone's unique polar pattern and ability to capture frequencies you can use both distance and angle to actually EQ the instrument/voice to better fit in the mix if you have some sort of plan. I have other shakers but this one has a softish crack to it's transient and is easier to deal with. And because of its tiny size you can grab a little or a lot and kind of tune it additionally to your needs.

    Very nice! The droning of the low E strings reminds me of a sitar :)

    Thanks!:wink:

    In this case it's Ab below the E times three. The 6th string is just flubbing around like a flat tire. It's surprising that it even makes a sound. :mates:

    @Lois Lane ,

    A very nice song, I like it: Kind of remind me of The End from The Doors.

    Thank you very much, mprsanter.

    That's interesting because I was eyeing a tambourine and was contemplating using that instead of the shaker, but in my mind a tambourine intones more a happy vibe and I went with the shaker more for the death rattle connotation. I'm in a deep and darker mood these last weeks. Even on cloudy days without a sun I cast a shadow.

    Bullseye, that was exactly what I thought when I listened to it.
