hi, i was watching a video about creative ways to use delay.the guy was using ableton and was able to press f button on ableton delay and it freezes the delay i.e. loops the part that played when f was pressed.
is there any way of doing this in cubase 11 pro even 3rd party plugs?
    thanks

the easy answer is to setup a tempo sync'd delay. Render the audio file so you capture the tail. Duplicate the channel audio, chop it, and then go from there. You can do a few different effects with it that way. I like to call things like this "moments", because you can have a bunch of different ones all done with their own individual character/effect, automations, maybe fade the tail back into the beginning of the loop to avoid a click by "wrapping the tail" into the next loop's start. Like having a delay or reverb tail, without having the delay/reverb across the entire sample creating a muddy effect. The downside is the extra channels.

Are you talking about buffer repeat effect (plus effects like filtering, etc), and not delay?

If you linked the video you mention it would be easier to help. Maybe you're talking about the spectral time freeze part? I 'don't quite understand the 'f button' since afaik ableton doesn't have pre-defined shortcuts on basic devices..

Oh, ok. That's an older tutorial and the (F) button (I thought you meant a shortcut) was replaced with ('infinity' symbol) in recent Live versions. Still called "Freeze". Short:

Delay endlessly cycles the audio that is in it's buffer at the moment the button is pressed, ignoring any new input until disabled.

Sorry for the confusion. Hope someone can help you /w Cubase or 3rd party. I don't have any such plugins installed.

I don't know about the F button. I was asking what effect you are looking for. Delay is not the same as buffer repeat (as found in effectrix and others).

Cubase loopmash FX has buffer repeater that you can play with it's length, if recall correctly, it even works with midi keyboard. I thought this was about FX like loop pedal. Sorry for the misunderstanding

There are a lot of great tools and quality fx in Ableton. Especially this kind of quick, no bs, to the point thingies. I hate Ableton for a million of reasons, but it's still my main DAW, it gets me there.. and I use Reaper in some cases bc it can do "anything" ;)

Anyway, I just quickly screencap-ed two one minute vids that show what that Freeze or InFinity button does.
    Here is the basic fn:

And here is a quick use case - how to "housify" a loop quick & dirty way. No automation, so the timing is probably a bit off.. or shall we say groovier. Just dragged some kicks only to illustrate:

Hope based on this someone can give you a better advice on how to do it in other DAWs. I guess a looper on delay send with some clever routing.. yeah, no idea :)

Reaper has so many scripts for this very purpose, free of charge. (just mentioning because Im very familiar with Cubase, sometimes i have to use it for a particular mixing client of mine, who doesnt know how to export correctly)

There's a plug to do the same loop (or nearly) for/in LogicPro/Sierra?
