Hey, this is my first topic in this forum but before I go on with the topic I'd like to introduce myself a bit... I'm from Argentina, I'm a foreign-trade student... I like to make music during my free time, I am a singer (tenor), guitarist and pianist... just a normal guy who enjoys music a lot lol.

The thing is like this, I tend to compose glam-metal music mostly along with some 80's styled ballads. I'm particularly looking for this sound, it is from Roxette - Listen to your heart song. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktRsl2hAPhY

You will clearly hear the sound at 0:10, just between the two piano's intros. It is right before the synth comes in... I don't know whether it is a synth or drum sound...

Oh well, thank you a lot for your time people...

It's a prophet 5 white noise, its a default factory patch. Also the kick hits just as the forward and reversed white noise hits it's end point of the envelope.

You can get the white noise out of any synth.

I;ve seen them before, I believe they're called whoosh or swoosh sounds

    a) you can either make them with white noise and sweeping a filter through them (hard way but the results are more precise) or

b)you can download a royalty free sample and tweak it, by making it fit on your song (stretch it, repitch, EQ),

c)or also you can try a cymbal sound, reverse it and make it a little bit faster (stretch it), and maybe even cut the tail a little that works but its a little harder to control, since the frequency of the cymbal and the decay is the key for the sound,
(on this step you can even send it to a small room reverb and turn it 100% wet) its all about trial and error.

    Noise oscillator.
Set suitable adsr (fast attack, medium to long decay, no sustain).
Add bandpass or lowpass filter, and set cutoff and resonance to taste.
Maybe even add filter envelope adsr or ramp (sweeping down in frequenzy).
Some synths also let you set color of noise oscillator.

It's pretty easy to set up. Good luck!

Sounds a lot like a China Crash Cymbal, played with felt sticks or a sample processed with an ADSR (actually only attack and decay) envelope.
Finding the right (smooth) China Crash sound and applying some EQ'ing might get you there.
If you use a synth's white noise and ADSR, you might also need a parametric EQ to get close.

Nice man, I'm trying to get the white sound atm. I'll benchmark results with that china crash you made along with one I'll make once I finish with the white sound.

    You people are great.

White noise, not white sound. It's in pretty much every synth out there, free and commercial. Can't go wrong.

I agree with others, China Cymbal (something like a 22"), hit gently, reversed and then a gentle normal (forward) hit at the end.
