I am about to move home, and in my new home I will have a dedicated space, rather than a repurposed spare bedroom. The space is only something like 3.5/4 metres by 3-ish metres, so is not a big room, but I mainly make electronic music in the box, so don't necessary need masses of space for gear and so on.

In my space, I am looking to make room for my studio desk with my music production gear on/near it and a DJing space for my Pioneer XDJ-RX3 setup. I will probably be working through design over the new few weeks before the move to try and refine a DIY desk/DJ booth design for the space.

The other main thing I am looking to do is to have some room treatment to try and deaden the room for better listening experience when producing and DJing. I currently use my Behringer Truth B2031A speakers mounted on isolated speaker stands for production, not necessarily for loudness (which could be a deafening nightmare in a smaller space with all the reflections), but more to get a truer representation of the low end at lower volumes, which works well for me. I can use the same speakers for DJing too, but tend to use my 2.1 Bose Companion 3 for more multimedia-esque hyped bass sound while DJing at home for pleasure.

One DIY solution I was contemplating was to hang wall panels amongst and inbetween the guitars I will have hanging on the walls. The other was to potentially by an Ikea Kallax unit (either the 4x2 or the 4x4 variants) and populate with the canvas storage boxes, some of which will be used for storing cables, guitar stuff, and so on, and some of which I plan to fill with something like rockwool (or ghetto alternative). Any thoughts on this? Would the filled canvas boxes help deaden the room, or would the surfaces of the Kallax cause more issues than it potentially solves? This is the unit, for reference:

I've got guitars hung in front of panels, look cool as they are almost framed. I've got mostly Monster Bass Traps on the rest, so they are way too deep to hang anything.
The unit would depend where it's situated though, so it could help/hinder depending.
When I built this studio, I used GIK Acoustics room builder tool, and they reply back with advice on your layout. You can use it as a base for your own solution or go with their gear.

On this build, I went more for aesthetics and ergonomics of the room, over the actual treatment. So what I have isn't cheap and cost a fortune, possibly needs more, but the room is a great place the hang out. And it sounds good enough.
