    Logic Studio 10

World exclusive sneak peek of the new version of Logic! :dancing: :guitarhero:

Apple to Release Logic Pro X

According to Japanese site Macotakara, Apple is going to release a new version of its Logic Studio suite, named as Logic Pro X. According to the report, the source comes from a “customer interview” with the Apple’s Logic Team. Earlier Apple has released Logic Pro 9.1.5 and Logic Express 9.1.5. According to the report, Apple will discontinue the Soundtrack Pro component of Logic Studio with the release of Logic Pro X. This new version of Logic Studio suite will turn WaveBurner into the core Logic Pro application. The report does not provide any information about how Apple will distribute Logic Pro X.

According to the report, the new version of Logic Studio suite will not come with GarageBand-style user interface. Logic Pro X will come with a complex interface which will be appropriate for this professional level software. Currently there is no information available about the release date of Logic Pro X. As we know Final Cut Pro X and Aperture has released on Mac App Store so it is expected that Logic Pro X will be available in the Mac App Store. MainStage is also expected to be released in Mac App Store. Apple has released Logic Pro 9.1 in 2010 which comes with 64-bit support. Earlier in mid-2009, Apple has released Logic Pro 9 as part of a revamped Logic Studio suite. For those who don’t know, Logic Pro X is the professional digital audio and music sequencing program of Apple.

You should note that earlier Macotakara has correctly predicted the introduction of Final Cut Pro X, media event, launch date and bigger speaker design of iPad 2. The same website has incorrectly predicted that Apple will include a new type of NAND Flash memory in the 2011 MacBook Air. This indicates that Japanese site Macotakara has mixed track record in case of Apple rumors. According to the report, SoundTrack Pro 3 will be replaced with a new app which will be released in Mac App Store along side MainStage, Final Cut Pro X, Aperture, and Logic Pro X.

Apple today issued a notice to resellers announcing that it has discontinued the boxed versions of its Logic Studio and Logic Express audio software packages effectively immediately, also announcing that the Logic Pro 9 and MainStage 2 components will be moving to the Mac App Store for distribution. It does not appear that Apple will be offering the Soundtrack Pro 3 component of Logic Studio via the Mac App Store.

A report from early September had claimed that Apple was finishing up work on Logic Pro X. The report also indicated that Soundtrack Pro would be discontinued as part of the update as it was with Final Cut update to Final Cut Pro X.

Today's notice to resellers specifically refers to "new" Logic Pro 9 and MainStage 2 coming to the Mac App Store, but it seems odd that Apple would simply move those apps to the Mac App Store while discontinuing Logic Express and Soundtrack Pro and without releasing more substantial updates to Logic Pro and MainStage to address the reworked packages.

Update: Logic Pro is priced at $199.99, down from $499; MainStage is $29.99. The Logic Pro pricing is a significant reduction from the current $499 Logic Studio price, echoing steep price drops on Apple's Final Cut Pro software when it moved to the Mac App Store and the discontinuation of Logic Express ($199).

Logic Pro is available for $199.99 on the Mac App Store [Direct Link], and MainStage is $29.99 [Direct Link].

That sounds as stale bread priced after the lunch time.
Some times Apple knows thoroughly how to disappoint users.
I remember Shake the digital compositing app. Before the discontinuation users had to face minor updates by the decimal for years while the app was becoming a mere interface for plug-ins so Nuke (The foundry) and Adobe After Effects took over.
