Interesting approach for categorizing specially A0 and A1 at the beginning of each category

By the way if anything happens to your categories setting restore following folder from time machine.
    ~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Databases/Tags

Also kindly check out Lite version of my design which I posted recently in this thread.

i only organize them within the manufacturer folders, but off the top of my head it's something basic like this:

    Channel Strips
    Pre-Amps
    Saturation

    EQ
    Compression
    Limiting
    Dynamics
    De-Essing

    Metering
    Pitch
    Processing / Repair

    Delay
    Reverb
    Modulation

Specialized (anything weird that sort of falls between categories)

Thanks. Seems we all follow same path with minor differences. :D

Also kindly check out my Lite version design.

You can also generate sub-folders as well by seperating the terms by ":". I alway create sub categories for compressors based on topology (FET, Opto, VCA. etc).

Yes you do. FL Studio was the first DAW to present and categorize plugins by using thumbnails combined with a filter for type/category. It's not about the look of it, it's about the principle. The workflow integration of it is pretty smart actually:

What do you think of tagging your plugins instead of subfolder/subcategory something like this.

Let's assume these are Compressor not Instruments. :)

In this case I think I can remove grouping from design or not?!

love the tagging idea, would be much easier than having to group each one inside plugin manager

Tagging would be okay as an additonal method, but not as a replacement. Otherwise you can not insert plugins in the traditional way using your own folder structure.

I just came across your post and I think this is an awesome and very useful idea!

Here are my 2 cents (I apologize if some has been covered already): as an avid plugin user, I am constantly organising my Plugin Manager. I created an exhausting amount of folders and subfolders tagged according to my WORKFLOW, such as Instruments (>Synths>Synths Analog>Synths Digital>Synths Wavetable ...), FX (Delay>Delay Tape>Delay BBD...), Vocals, Drums, Sequencers ... you name it, further down to Mixing, EQ, Comp, Mastering, Finalizing, Meter, Utility, Favourites ... all you can imagine.

But the main thing I do which is even more important for me to see in the Plugin Menu is custom names. Because most plugins have stupid names that will tell me nothing about its purpose. While working, I want to reach out to a "Teletronix LA-2A" so I usually rename them with its original marketing name. If it's not an emulation of something exisiting, I possibly tag it with some more useful term.

I most certainly never use the menu "Audio Units" which is sorted by developer name. That's the most useless thing for me in Logic.

For an app like this I wish to keep the option to rename my plugins to my taste and create my own groups and folders but I also would like to have tags and the option to resort or regroup the plugins by tags (for eample "show all fast compressors") or sort A-Z.

And of course, possibly the coolest feature would be to see a thumbnail!

    A sad day..

Just restarted my computer and it's decided to reset my Custom Folders

    Edit:

Found a hack! --> I found my old screenshot in this chat of my folders so I could create the same folders.. When i created the new folders, all the plugins to that new folder appeared again!

So all I had to do was create the folders and came everything back.

Also, if you want to make a backup, I've found where this lies:

    Username/Music/Audio Music Apps/Databases/Tags/ :
    MusicApps.properties
    &
    MusicApps.tagpool

I would make a backup of these 2 files at least, probably the whole 'Tags' folder.

    Hope this helps someone!
