Logic Pro 11 - Moving sound library to external SSD

Discussion in 'Software' started by Vincent Price, May 15, 2024.

  1. Hello

I am just trying out the new Logic Pro 11 and after reading on the sister site that I can relocate the Logic Pro sound library to an external SSD I have done so, however it will only give me the option to relocate it to the main SSD and not any other sub-folders on the SSD

Is this possible and does anyone know how to do this?

    Thanks

I have tried it some time ago, also only parts of the library with symlinks, doesn't work. Only option is to move the whole library like Logic does.

Watch this short video explaining how to use a Symlink for the moved library.

Hopefully this will solve your issue.

The video is from 2018, I tried it about a year ago on an M1 MacBook with symlinks to several big parts of the library and Logic didn't recognize the files. Just the whole library works. And you even can't use the same library for several Macs! If you have two MacBooks, you have to use two external drives with the library, one for each Mac.

That's really annoying, as you can't keep the basic sounds on the MacBook and put large samples you don't use every day on to the external SSD, it's all or nothing.
