That's a 15 year old 32 bit vsti released in '05. I wonder if they ever bridged it to 64.

IIRC the original was used with an actual hardware controller. Hans Zimmer used it for a while. This thing is pretty cool.

They never did. Now, there is a support group for it on Facebook but strictly for MacOSX, and still it remains a 32bit plugin.

Well I will maybe ask something impossible but does anybody know some Vst/Au (I'm on mac) with the same gritty sound of the oscillator than the Reaktor ensemble :

I've got a Virus TI2 and the sound is EXACTLY the same, even the fm and the comb filter however the effect tab isn't so good and the wavetables cannot be moved in position...

So yes, in this thread I can affirm that the closest replica of the Virus original sound is this Reaktor Ensemble (and... it's free)

An other plugin that I search since long time is something like a reproduction of the moog subsequent 37, where the sound is fat, and grainy but not saturate, it's better, nothing like an effect...

    Cheers

I compared this ensemble to my Virus Ti, and it sounds absolutely nothing like it, not even close.

Yea i got it rigged to a Nektar T4 with Nektarine.. works pretty well  Naktarine exposes all essential parameters & once mapped then works in all DAW's.. pretty neat.:like:

If I have the time I will make a sound by sound comparison, but by hear it's absolutely the same.

I've got the TI2 not the TI by the way

Nope its not. I made a video to save you the trouble.

First I compare dry saws and their phase. The Virus Ti has free running phase, that is, it remembers where the oscillators left off and continues from that phase when they are active again. The Parasite just creates random phase on each key press. Second the FM modulation sounds totally different, nothing alike. And third, the filters are again, not the same, the cutoff and resonance are drastically different. I could go on and make an hour long video but these should be enough. Just because the Virus makes a sawtooth waveform, and Parasite does a sawtooth as well, that that does not mean, "oh they sound the same". Creating a virus sound lies in millions of little details creating a whole.

Ahah you're amazing in a certain way, yes it's not the same, nothing sound more like a Virus than a Virus BUT what I was saying is that in
comparison to other plugin that some say sound like a Virus it's the closest one, if not prove me that I'm wrong ;)

Well, you said "other plugin" and Viper counts as other plugin. Its your own fault that you are on a Mac :P

The filter of Viper doesn't sound exactly like the Virus one to my ears on your short video. The filter of the Virus sounds "sharper".By the way I have never played with a Virus nor Viper.

Edit:I'm not saying Viper doesn't sound cool.

That comparison is made with Viper 1.0.0 it has been improved much since. Only Access has the source code for their filter, its impossible to create a perfect copy. Also Viper used new modern Zero delay feedback filters, which are much more stable when modulating it extremely fast, there are very minor differences but its very very close.

I have no clue in filter designs, from time to time I read some sheets about filter algorithms,I don't doubt for one minute that modelling a synth is very difficult.
