I grabbed the AMEK 9099 today too. The most beautiful playing console I've ever worked on. It had been months since I'd set my sights on that Brainworx masterpiece. Along with UAD 4K E and API Vision, they are pretty much the great ITB gems of pros in my opinion. And they are my most trusted allies in my mixes.

 

Plugin Alliance is one of the few companies out there I dont mind throwing a few bucks at, waves on the other hand.... can fuck a cock, with their false advertising and shady business practices... when I bought the diamond bundle on deep discount, not anywhere did it say a year later I would have to pay again to keep using... fuck waves

 

Yes, i can confirm .... AMEK 9099 is really great

 

Yes, amek 9099 and Lindell 50 are my favorites, the EQ section is just great and very musical

 

So the plugins stopped working? That's the first I've heard of that.

I'm pretty sure you would only need to pay a fee if you wanted to upgrade to the next major version, but no one is forcing you to do that, as far as I understand it you can carry on using the version you bought and don't have to pay anything or pay for WUP to do so.

But yes, if you want to upgrade, to use a new version, or take advantage of new features in the platform there are upgrade fees - but that's not the same thing as "pay again to keep using".

Or maybe I am misunderstanding you...

So far I’ve only used it on a new project vocal that I sampled from a movie . It does sound smooth . But theres a issue with it I feel .
It clips really easily compared to other de-essers I have Rx for example . The only way to stop this was to bring the input gain down and boost the output to bring back to level . I couldn’t tell you if this is true of the original dbx 902 hardware it’s based on . Maybe something that will be fixed in the next update . Personally I’m not convinced it’s anything I needed with having a few already . It doesn’t bring anything new to the table . The only good thing was the price deal .

 

using 9 original 902s since 20ish years, this sounds nothing like a properly calibrated vintage unit

mind there are 2 versions the silver cans, which are most desireable and the later ones which sound meh

 

yea. I remember using Waves L1 in Soundforge back in '99 on W98! great Dx tools!
now I mostly use realimit and fabfilter. I'd die to have real gear and a real studio with real speakers and some nice chairs and maybe a couch...
