Just out of curiosity, do you put loopcloud and most other sample pack suppliers ( companys like CR2, Toolroom, Vengeance etc) in the same bag as Splice or is it just Splice itself?

I had to check, apparently Salt'N'Pepa used it in '86, so that's what... 36 years?

In all fairness, I would've put Straight Outta Compton and King of the Beats a bit later, very early 90s.

  5. Interesting thread I saw on reddit about a month or so ago.. A guy was complaining about how some splice user was just throwing out tracks on youtube that consisted of jumbles of splice samples thrown together, not even really songs, so that he could claim copyright on the samples and have youtube block anyone else from using them. I didn't have the time right now to listen to the OP's entire youtube link on this thread, but it sounds similar -- lol, maybe what got him going on this was that reddit thread??? Here's the link...

I think there is no answer to all of this, other than to stop using b/s loops and just make your own music from scratch. Believe it or not, there was a time when that was how it was done... all of it!

... trust me I'm knee deep in the industry and know a thing or two about 'copyright', creative ownership, infringement and the lot. I've been
in more disputes and literally court cases over chord progressions, samples, lyrics and plain rip-offs, to know that the whole idea of copyright -let alone intellectual property which was concocted by lawyers, marketeers and publishers to protect their profits from their cash cows. Record companies are banks - with one sole objective: to protect their investments and see a high as possible rate of return. On a side note Spotify is not a 'success'. It's a sellout with a huge musical database and a massive audience that are coerced into a payed monthly subscription to not have their musical listening experience torn apart by advertisement. I know for a fact Spotify can exist by the deals struck with the 9 big labels, and pay the independent artist a tiny bit for their plays and efforts at the same time. I've been with Spotify since the very beginning. Anyway, I digress. Intellectual property is a fucking joke. Listen; If you release a physical album, with a sleeve, cover, photo, print, vinyl, cd or cassette yes you should make a buck above the cost of production. For time spent in the studio. For marketing time and effort. You should never sell yourself short; but the notes, the ideas behind it are superfluid and have no monetary value.
They have emotional value, to you the creator and to who cares to listen to them.
There is nothing new under the sun ... end of rant.

Music property is like seeds property or water property ... and it is time to end this.

We are FORCED to SELL our humanity in many forms (like music production), i know.
BUT realizing it is already finding the solution.

Long lives to all artists !

Personally, I think the main Problem is best described with a quote from 1986 Genesis - Land of Confusion :

There's too many men, too many people
    Making too many problems

And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is the land of confusion?

And everyone wants a piece of the whole cake
Intellectual Property is a concept of the last millennium (and even then a highly controversial)

    But that's my 2 cents
