Switch to Steinberg built-in ASIO Driver and/or, if you care about openness, FlexASIO + Fluent.

 

IIRC the Steinberg and FlexASIO (via PortAudio) wrappers use the older IAudioClient version 1/2 interface, meaning their minimum latency is 10ms, irrespective of what they report to the DAW. Might be the case for FLASIO too. Would have to measure with a loopback.

The post was edited because I was supposed to include spoilers. I'm very new to this AI stuff I hardly ever us it but it's becoming a daily driver for most people. I have been warned about my account being banned, and it technically should have because I end up starting a thread in the wrong topic category. Xupito pretty much hit it. There is less abstraction with 4all. When FLASIO wants to run a process it has to consult with more native windows processes than 4all does. Those windows processes might also need to call up buddies and ask for something, which just compounds total execution time the longer the chain extends. Likewise, FLASIO is more of an overseer than a doer. It's asking native windows processes to do most of the tasks, and those are likely to be fairly robust, resilient, and tested. As compared to 4all, who is closer to the action resulting in faster execution but also doesn't have the ability to be tested in the lab quite like the native microsoft bits do. So minor snafus can spiral into catastrophic failures more easily.

Beyond that I don't know the nitty gritty level stuff as I never went down that rabbit hole either for funsies or troubleshooting. I like my ASIO like my, uh... cocaine? 100% Pure. And of uh, German origin? I gotta work on my literary devices.

Forgot to add, but the older laptop has Windows 8.1 on it, while the newer laptop has Windows 10. I am going to install Windows 8.1 on the new laptop and see if it can give a performance boost.

 

I was using that and is very compatible and stable. But it has a fixed buffer of 480 samples. That's why I switched to FL ASIO.
