I was into rock, not pop at the time. But now with the total crap, and I really mean crap out there, LOL that is out there he is totally a musician and I totally respect him.
He plays instruments not machine.

Gee 2016.Loosing too many pioneers.Do i have to be afraid of a possible Kravitz calling ,God? I usually don't know much about artists' personal life, but i respect such genius musicians even if they are on drugs alcohol etc.But for the moment Prince's death doesn't seem to be a drug overdose.If you'd pick a "celebrity style death" , then HIV seems to fit more on this case.I mean the flu weakness and then death seem more like an exhausted system.Anyhow respect to another Pioneer.

 

For some reason, this news has me a lot more messed-up than when I'd learned of Bowie's passing, even though I was a bigger fan of the latter's music.

What is getting on my nerves about famous musicians' dying is the predictable ritual of every entertainment-news outlet's trying to get its definitive (but insufficient, if not also copy/pasted) "tribute" out in time to cash-in on it, or because it's obligatory to spew lots of blabla about it.

What really annoys me is frickin' ill-spoken and dull-witted "millennial" journalists or news anchors with no sense of cultural history, trying to command the facts and significances of the deceased musician's life and music, and its influence.

One such bimbo (on CNN, of all places) was mewling, "Without Prince, we wouldn't have electronic elements in music today," as she grasped for something "insightful" or "expert" to offer. She and the other anchor (another "milennial," a guy) hadn't even confirmed that it were in fact Prince who had been reported dead at Paisley Park, and yet they scrambled to inarticulately eulogize him. What an unprofessional travesty.

I appreciated Prince's music too much to subject my experience of it and my memory of the man to any more "journalism" about it for the next couple of weeks. I listened to his song "Erotic City" and to The Black Album, but that's the extent of that standard ritual for me. I just don't want to listen to his music "because he died," because I loved it while he was alive.

Oh – and by the way, look for upcoming conspiracy-theory articles and videos claiming that Prince's death was either faked or an "Illuminati sacrifice," the latter having somehow to do with its occurring on/around the "occult holiday" of Hitler's birthday, or some such. More travesty.

Come on guys, lets cheer up, there are tons of prince records i havent heard, guess its time to go back and take a look at what he's be doing the last 10 years or so.
Also, there are some greats still left alive, yes we lost Bowie and now Prince, damn, cant get used to that, but we have some old pioneers left, even if a lot of them aren't active that much, we can know we are living a world with them,

he was not allowed to use Prince as his name this is why he use the symbol and write slave on his face when he must complete contract

he see google (youtube) as same shit as this record industry, maybe if someone steal your birth name and your art from you you will think different

he give free albums at shows, he donate to start #yeswecode this does not seem like the action of greedy artist to me

 

Prince, a "so-called star"? WTF??? What does a multi-instrumentalist have to do? When I see and hear this kind of talk, I'm astonished and dismayed. Rare musicians, such as Prince, DO NOT come along in many people's lifetimes. This man had more musical talent in one finger than many have in their entire bodies. The great Miles Davis encapsulated Prince's incredibly rare gifts in this video clip:

I always thought this was a perfect pop record, so here is the song structure for Raspberry Beret - G C D G - (121 BPM).

It's worth studying because the vocals only come in at 1:11, which makes it a masterclass in how to arrange an intro section. Also note the clap and woah thing, and variations in the beat. There are plenty of tips in the vocal delivery too, about how to keep it interesting and the duet on the last chorus, etc.

Hey - what'd I tellya?

Let's try this, instead:

Prince was one hyper-talented motherfather, and a decent guy.

 

i was more of a roger troutman man myself but prince was a cool guy.

 

I stumbled upon this treat.

It's a great slice of Prince (and the Revolution) from just before Purple Rain was filmed and recorded.

It's notable for a few reasons

1) this is the gig from which the live audio (recorded outside on mobile studio) formed the basis of the 'live' tracks on the final released album, the soundtrack, Purple Rain. They were overdubbed later for the album obviously, but listen to the vocal for Purple Rain and it is clearly the one that features on the final recording (At least the opening stanzas)

2) This was before the film or album so it was maybe the first time people had heard Let's go Crazy, Computer Blue, Purple Rain, etc. The first time The Revolution had played them live? Purple Rain starts absent the usual cheers of recognition.

3) Apparently it was Wendy's try-out - if she got the Purple endorsement for this show then she had the gig as guitarist for The Revolution, and the film, album, tour etc. Her big chance, as she said. She does a great job, but she surely looks pretty anxious!

4) Simply how amazing it is. The intensity and commitment is massive (and now all gone......bar some videos).

Disclaimer: Not flaming, I don't mean to say that Kravitz is inferior, imho he just has a completely different approach to tradition than the artists passing away this year.

 

I don't think Kravitz is the best artist out there, but i mentioned him because he involves in many stuff ( from writing a song , to orchestrating , playing many instruments, etc )

Lenny Kravitz is an artist that can also play every instrument on his album, engineer and produce it and probably fix himself his collection of vintage outboard gear if it goes down. He was also in relationship with one of the totally sexist women I every had the pleasure to talk to, Lisa Bonet. She oooooozed sensuality. Lordy lordy!

 

yep.Thom Yorke is one of those unique artist too for me, overrated by others.
