Windows 11 has hardly been on the market for half a year as the "last version ever" and there are already rumors about a successor. And now Windows 12 is rumored to be in development. Twitter user SwiftOnSecurity started the rumor over the weekend. And then quickly put it into perspective as a joke. Yesterday, however, the German PC modding community confirmed these rumors, based on their own anonymous source at Microsoft.

I don't think this is for real, but nothing coming from MS can surprise me any more. Flop after flop after flop... since Windows XP times. I'm so glad I use it only for music, cut into little pieces, and pirated. If that OS was worth anything, I would even buy it, but it's just a bullied and pushed onto people OS that kinda works, so people don't complain. I mean those who know nothing about operating systems and haven't seen or tried anything else.

Using Linux liberated me. You know - like a breath of fresh air when you get released from prison kinda feeling. Still a bit clunky for audio due to lack of plugins, but slowly getting there.

Whatever they release next it won't be any better than what they released before that. That's what I'm sure of. Completely uninteresting and frankly even irritating already.

What would really surprise me is if that bloody company released Windows with a real-time kernel, without any telemetry, and completely customisable! Now that would be really interesting. But that won't happen in a million years.

The only way Microsoft stops making Windows is by deciding to call it something else.

 

I would suggest to call it a Fireplace, or maybe a Dumpster or a Landfill? Dumpster 12 has a nice ring to it. "I have a computer with a Dumpster 12 installed on it. It's better than Dumpster 11".

In fact, there is no doubt that Microsoft is already thinking about what to do next, or at least is starting to put ideas aside. But it’s still way too early to start talking about proper development. Anyway, Windows 12 should not arrive before at least 2026, at minimum.

As a reminder, Windows 11 was released in October 2021. It is possible to download it from the official website. If you are on Windows 10, your PC will offer to install it if your machine is compatible, if it is not already done.

 

i think it will be more like a mac os-ish thing: windows 11.1 and the big change will be when the pluton chip is introduced
