I have a favourite free Windows VST and I'm about to transition to Mac. Since I can't bring this one (shuttleplugs Lawnmower) over in any way that would allow me to tweak the sound live on Mac, I'm considering getting a different distortion unit that can come close enough and/or recreate the specific sound of this plugin.

Could anyone please help me with some tips or VST/preset names to achieve a similar enough sound to this extra lovely piece of software?

You would actually need to post some audio clips trying to replace something so specific. But what I would do, rather than try to replace/emulate a free distortion plugin; I would try to figure out what payware distortion plugin the free one was trying to emulate instead.

There is no shortage of good distortion plugins on Mac. iZotope Trash 2 is over 10 years old, you can get some Ohmboyz distortions, DJ Swivel BDE. There are too many to list them all. Get the Mac first, because this is putting the cart before the horse.
