I'm looking for an aggregating service to publish some songs of mine in the major online music stores. As I'm searching around the web, I've read that one is asked to cite a music label for one's music and the advice is the "create your own label name" to gain control on the distribution reports, or so I believe I understand.

My question is, is it that simple? Can I just christen my label by just filling a blank on CD Baby's registration form? Aren't there other things implied?

On the other hand, as my project studio starts getting traction, wouldn't it be great to add a distribution service for the acts that record an album with me? It'd be like going from production to publishing in one deal. Then I'd need to provide IRSC codes for such material. I guess this is when becoming a real label comes to the table. How do you fill that gap? How can you just become a studio that produces music, provides ISRC codes and aggregates music to iTunes?

Any pointers? Thanks a lot for your insight.

    Copyright your label name. http://www.quicklabel.com/blog/2011/09/how-to-trademark-and-copyright-your-label/

For distribution I suggest Label Worx http://www.label-worx.com.

May want to go ahead and set up a account with ASCAP, BMI or SESAC for your personal performance/mechanical royalties. Then a account with Songtrust.

    Then..

Pub on some stock music libraries. Tons of film studios flock to sites like Audio Sparx http://www.audiosparx.com to grab tracks for spots/placements.
But that's really a whole different world that you have to be prepared very for. Mostly because its all about tagging and to do that right takes A LOT of time.

    For starters lol.

Thanx for your reply. I've read around that Ditto has lousy customer service. What's your experience?

I'm beginning to lay interest in Loudr. Any first hand experience? The fact that you pay nada up front makes it interesting. You pay higher royalties, but I'm not a hit success and I'd be floored if I sell at all.

Lots of good research. Thank you guys for your help.
