(First impressions): Surprise, a first-class GUI. How does the GR-8 sound? Good to very good - has a special sound. I'll keep that.

I'm not a big fan of KVR in general because of bla, bla, bla teacher's pet shit show, but I always have thoroughly enjoyed the Developer Challenge since it's inception in 2006 when U-he won with his Triple Cheese entry ... and the rest is history.

I could agree to that, I'm not very into lingering around KVR but I do lurk some threads sometimes on certain software to follow the conversations about updates and such. I also check new releases and updates that get posted. It's great for basically being a plugin encyclopedia.

 

fullbucket makes some amazing stuff. here is one of their entries for 2021:

I know, most users are probably focussed on the synth and effect submissions, but don't miss to check the Virtuosity Drums, a natural sounding drumset sampled at extreme detail and very realistic sounding!

 

Unless someone knows something I don't, this year's crop isn't the creme of the crop. I'm rather disappointed in the entries.

 

I think it's because the challenge has not been held for the last two years and people wasn't sure it would be held this year either. It was also started later than usual, iirc!

 

Wow, I didn't think I'd say this, but there's not a single interesting entry this year. At least not for me...

 

Voted for Reducktion, best sounding synth of the kvr challenge to me.
3 OSC + quality effects + mod matrix + step sequencer + resizable GUI + light on cpu

 

I used Hum808 X and it has a good sound.

Happy to see Phuturetone make it to the 2nd place. Im a fan of their Phutura (Reaktor) and I think GR8 is not bad at all. Voted for them.
