q.632 is a modestly updated repackage of Magpha EQ, an obscure and defunct plugin whose unusual phase-modeled filters earned it a reputation for smoothness and fidelity that rival what comes out of $9,000 analog mastering EQ’s.

Spotting an opportunity to revive this lovely tech, Kush reached out to John Flynn, the mastering engineer who developed Magpha, and secured an exclusive license both to Magpha and its underlying EQ algorithms.

 

On paper it reads like a dream EQ, but then the GUI is a thing of nightmares

I mean, I know what each dial does, but come on, how lazy and uninspiring can a GUI possibly be?! This thing desperately needs a re-skin.

 

Why not rereleased by DDMF or any not of analog dirt emulation makers?... It is not the style of Kush, ubk, sly-fi..

is just very fancy wording to say "minimum phase". FabFilter already has the "Natural phase" in Pro-Q, and CraveEQ has the "Analog" setting to do the same, with a much better interface. If one needs knobs, you can pick up DDMF GrandEQ or AOM Tranquilizer.

It is so because people still listening mp3 with killed highs, watch videos with ultracompressed audio on YT, and not so much people who listen lossless and have ears more than 18k. So, who cares about nyquist phases and what's going on with ultrasound.
Mp3 is in blood. This was for faster translation and less size for 90s with hundredsof MB or several GB HDDs, effective codec. Now we have tons of terrabytes, ultrafast internet, mobile phones, and still mp3 is number one. No matter that there are flac for compression without loss etc. So who needs this nyquist area accuracy? only we care about?

But again, amazing sounding unique plugins deserve proper pleasant looking and functional GUI's... and (apparently) this aint that and neither are any of the Airwindows plugins I've tried. Then again, this is what $79 bucks and Airwindows arent, so theres that. Whatever

 

It's better having NO GUI AT ALL than this crap. Holy f*ck... this is terrible. Not even Meldaproduction got so far on a ugly GUI

 

Ironically, i was thinking about Kush plugins yesterday. And the fact that i don't like any of his EQ's and wouldn't use any of them even if they were freebies. And now, he releases this THANG. So i now will conclude my thesis that Kush Audio strength is def not on the filters.
EDIT: Clariphonic is good as hell. The only one i may use time by time

PS: i like some of the plugins of the company. The ones i use i think they sound cool. But none of them are EQ's.

This is a rerelease of balancemastering Magpha EQ which is discontinued.

 

Is there any known issue or reason why it was discontinued ? It doesnt really have anything unique to its own. Cant think of why Kush bringing it up alive again

Hey! Guy who made the dark Polymax GUI! Here's another dev who needs you to make their job for them!

 

According to GS , it was abandoned several years ago (2 or bit more), no responses from developers about bugs, improvements etc
Some people said the most latest version(s) with updated DSP of original MagphaEQ had some combfiltering artifact while working with Q or so, so earlier version didn't have this. Instead of bell shape it was bell shape with waving curly shapes or something like that.
Same as I remember was with another their EQ, abandoned too..

I compared earliest and last version and it perfectly nulled as I remember, even if plugindoctor shows difference.. So, don't know... Maybe it is just latency, pdc, etc, so might be it works fine, but if not properly compensated it becomes bad, dunno.. I don't see a problem, but users wanted more updates and fixes... So, kush mightbe revisit and rewrite it as soon as possible :D

 

Also, I don't think it is better than kirchhoff, equilibrium, crave eq2, pro-q3, weiss eq, and several others.
