I have Native Instruments Kontakt 8.7.2 [HCiSO] and nothing I have tried is getting the shadow drones to work and it shows in the KLU library as its installed, man this ish is infuriating!

 

That does sound frustrating, I have dl'd, but not installed Shadow Drones yet myself... I've had that happen prior with a few libraries (and again, haven't looked at the nature of that one), so can't really comment intelligently other than I do recognize with the absence of a KLU update in the last 2 years, (and since Kontakt v8 was released essentially right?), it can be a little temperamental and I follow the threads on releases to find where others may have problems that are just not pebkac's....

 

This is what happens when you hand someone a Swiss Army Knife. It's not a problem with my post because they decide to use it as a hammer. Terrabytes of Kontakt libraries say the Swiss Army knife will still be the right tool 99% of the time. And that is for the small percentage of libraries that will not be batch added by Junior's Add Library tool in the first place.

I just looked at the folder of the dl of it, and it's not anything that requires KLU or AddLibrary etc.... it's a file based load.


bad things are more likely to happen when people go assigning snipds and f'ing around with things when you simply can just, sigh, "load it".

KLU etc are not necessary for it at all.

In previous versions of Kontakt (say 1/2/3/4/5 etc), libraries were accessed solely from the side pane view, with libraries requiring a license appearing on the left with artwork etc and generally a drop down menu to load different patches etc.... in addition to a "file" view where one would/could assign file directory paths in your preferences to designate certain places or folders for quicker navigation rather than having to dig through a file tree etc. As well as the "QuickLoad" options etc.

(This form for the ~most~ part still exists if one chooses, albeit some of the more convenient means of designation are not (at least last I looked) easily defined). More recent versions (6(?)/7/8) default iirc to a window which includes these things and can behave more like a 'shop', or more similar to how something like say, Arturia's Analog Lab presentation of libraries.

I personally still prefer the sidebar view for the most part and utilize that, and that is where I access Kontakt libraries that have not paid into the NI licensing system and are, for lack of better term, "unprotected" etc, in addition to the licenses libraries I have through which I can switch access with a toggle. That may be a bit byzantine, but I'm just used to it and need to do some further organization on my stuff to set up the newer, apparently "suggested by NI" means of viewing/accessing/browsing.

Sorry if I am explaining this poorly, didn't sleep much at all last night and waiting for coffee to brew, so will tighten up explanation later if I'm failing here..


But with something like Shadow Drones (looking at it as just a bunch of .nki files etc and a sample folder, one should be able to access it by wither dragging it atop a Kontakt instance, the other view options I mentioned, the newer browser defaulted to, and should not require KLU or other utility at all as does not contain a nicnt etc that needs to seen or recognized by any registry or plist or xml file etc etc that NI uses in that regard, and creating one (and corresponding snipd required and whatnot) can possibly create future problems with conflicts should NI happen to use the same one you generated for another product/library you add later.

Why Talula and others tend to warn off trying to get too clever and cute with that stuff and adding own wallpapers and whatnot as possibly tossing a wrench in the operation down the road.

 

Again, nothing I've tried works, going through menus takes me to native access to which I obvs don't have a log on... starting to think it's just not for me! lol
