Is it still possible to add libraries with catalina ? Do I have to use kontakt 5? And does it work on catalina?

I'm about to get a macbook pro 16'' and wondering which software works and which not. kontakt not working would be a major no-no for the new macbook

 

Just my two cents - I haven't updated to Catalina for this particular reason (my laptop is from May 2019) since we've been warned beforehand that there would be major compatibility issues with Kontakt when Catalina came up, since Catalina ditched 32 bits app support; and since I have 150 k'd librairies (all cracked through an instance of Kontakt 5.6.6 in standalone mode) I didn't want to take the risk of losing everything, in particular if this way of activating the librairies doesn't work under Catalina (which I never had a clear answer about).

I will probably only jump to Catalina when I buy a new Macbook Pro 16" as well in the next couple years. I would advise you do the same as you're about to get a Catalina MBP - make sure you keep all you have right now on your former MBP, Time Machine you current MBP and see what happens with your new MBP set up with the Time Machine backup - see if it creates a mess or just works fine. In the former case at least you will have kept a clean copy of your current Kontakt collection.

 

Kontakt works fine running in Catalina (10.15.7).
However the following is true:

1. You need Kontakt 5.6.0 (R46) to add libraries on the Mac
2. Kontakt 6.3.2 works on the Mac
3. The most recently "available" version of Kontakt 6.4.0 is a BETA and will NOT run on the Mac
4. The Windows world has an update "available" of Kontakt 6.4.1. Mac users are still awaiting their "available" update

Yeah man the new MBP are twice powerful according to CPU performance charts they run Logic, Ableton etc. way faster! I'm so gutted I have to wait another couple years for the next upgrade Glad it all worked out under Catalina, although yeah obviously will need a few hours to reinstall all the k'd stuff properly but it's worth it... that's good to know thanks for the info.

 

I can confirm all of this and it also works fine on Cataline iMac and Macbook pro running Big Sur Public Beta.
I still manage and build my Libraries on my win 10 box on an external 4tb drive, then transfer and mirror (the library and Xml) to external drives on my iMac and Macbook pro

 

Okay, this might seem like a silly question, but all the library xml-files are located at the service center folder located at library/application support... In Catalina and BS, the old service center doesn't work anymore because it's 32-bit. Does that matter in some way? I mean, I suppose the service center app can still exist in Catalina even thought it doesn't work, and thus the service center folder too?

I'm contemplating updating to Catalina, and I'm deleting 32-bit apps and came upon this question.
