Hi all, I was wondering about the standard Kontakt installation, no extras etc (the release that's usually about 600+ megabytes).

1: What does it come with? (which sounds/instruments)

2: What can it do for my existing sample collection, which is mostly drums and one-shot synths/stabs? Is it able to play back those with interesting, useful and fabulous effects?

Sometimes you feel your DAW falls shorts when it comes to stock samples, maybe I want a cello or some other acoustic/orchestral, stock DAW usually has some but not much and not great quality, you can consider it an alibi and not much more :)

It's very decent for bread and butter kind of sounds. There's retro synths aplenty, drum machines, various acoustic and electric drumkits, orchestral instruments by VSL and surprisingly good "World" section.

This can be easily expanded for free by getting Komplete Start which comes with a couple of libraries (along with other good stuff), and NI's Twenty-Five is a great free library as well.
