    Hi forum,

I'm currently running Kontakt 5 on Cubase 5, on a pc with 8gb ram. However I receive a error saying
"PANIC : Could not allocate enough memory. Application is likely to become unstable." When I'm only using 4.5gb of ram. I've realised that I cannot do anything more, once I reach 4.5gb of ram, or else my cubase freezes and closes.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a 16gb ram, but not too sure if that will help. Does anyone have a solution for this?

    Thanks!

In Kontakt's options, make sure to disable multi-core support. I'm able to run Kontakt well with 4GB memory. Hope this helps.

You didn't list your OS specs. If you are on 64bit Windows it shouldn't be a problem with 8gb ram. Make sure you are referencing the physical memory usage in the task manager when you get that error and don't rely on a sum from Kontakt or Cubase. There can be something else sitting on your hard drive allocating a lot of memory such as a bad media file, etc.. If you are on 32bit Windows such as XP, etc. it is limited to 4gb ram usage and incapable of using beyond that. In that case, upgrading to 16gb ram would be useless.

AFAIK Cubase 5 is only x32 (x86), so no matter your hardware and OS it can't handle more than 4 GB. You could use more using JBridge utility, although it's not a perfect solution.

When running plugins from a DAW, they're a single process. Except for Reaper I think, which has an official Bridge functionality (I'm not sure)

Hey everyone thanks for the replies, I've tried disabling multi core. However that made the kontakt slower, and a few of the instruments did not play. I'm currently operating on a Windows 7, Intel i7 - 4700 CPU @ 3,400GHz / 64 bit operating system.

Ps there are nothing else in this pc, besides my Cubase and samples (as it's only for music production)

    Is Cubase 5 you're using x64 or x86 application?

Cubase 5 has both 64 and 32bit versions of the program.

Cubase 5 Air release is 32 bit only, and this is the problem. Any changes to settings will not help. Only jBridge, or change of DAW.

You could also run the Kontakt Memory server to allocate more memory

It's not only about the OS, even in a 64bit OS a 32bit process can have only 2GB of memory allocated to it.
That's why I bought Cubase, because the cracked 32bit version is useless now.

The endless Cubase 8 Elements Trial is better than Cubase 5, you should try it,
24 Instrument tracks + 16 VSTi racks and 64 MIDI tracks could be enough.
There is always a way to get around the limitations.

I bought Cubase Artist 7 for 150€ on a xmas sale as an upgrade from Cubase LE 4

hi you could give studio one a try
its setup is alot like cubase so should be easy for you to change daws or at least try it out.

There is a other fix you could try as well
but it involves runing Kontakt x64 bridged in fl studio x86 then as a rewire
    into cubase 5 lol
its alot of setting up and messing around and still needs a other daw to install and learn.

so trying out studio one could be the easy fix.

How many different kontakt instruments are you running in your project?

For some reason i can run with "many" kontakt instruments in cubase 5, but not in Live without running into Ram problems.

Anyway, one work around, Bounce 1 ontakt intrument to audio file and deactivate that kontakt instrument Keep the ball rolling:winker:

I have a 4790 k and 32 gigs of ram. I think your issue is you are using Cubase 32 bit. I can tell you to try reaper it will run circles around Cubase as far as speed and memory utilization. To add the built in 32 bit vst bridge really works great for me. Do I miss some of Cubase built in vst yes. Do I miss the pig of Cubase running no.

i think cubase 5 does use a bridge, so in that way the 4GB limit doesnt matter, because when you use kontakt 5 x64, it can use the fully ram you have installed.

Hm thanks all for the replies, I think the problem is that my Cubase 5 is in 32bit.
I'm planning on purchasing Cubase 8 artist, would this fix the memory problem?

But builded bridge sucks! It causes much more problems than jBridge.

    barah sherlock
    Sure, it will.
