    MAC 10.8 using kontakt 5.4.2

I have a number of libraries - around 250 in total and i seem to be having trouble getting them all in the library tabs.
Is there a known limit to the number of contact libraries which can be added to the tabs? i've organised them in pianos, sound collections, drums etc etc

The last issue i had was that once i got close to adding the last 20 or so Kontakt crashed. Needless to say all tabs were then NOT in the place i had organised them to keep things tidy and ease my workflow.
i read somewhere that leaving Kontakt around 20 mins after exiting is good so the location of each tab id is saved correctly I can confirm that this is correct and contact remains active for a while after exiting.

However i'm seriously getting paranoid when adding libraries. It seriously seems a nightmare every time and i am questioning if there s a limit to the number of library tabs. If this is the case what can i do ?

thanks in advance to anyone willing to share some info on the matter.

The libraries keep on getting messed up. i allow up to 30 -45 mins waiting time before re-opening contact to give it time to index but it seems sometimes it's useless as well.
is there possibly no manager for mac to do this adding bulk lib tabs ?

i've read about creating sub folders and having one folder per supplier but it really is not that creative imo. The libraries are grouped in a way that makes sense for productions not by supplier PLUS
seeing the images of the libraries ( wallpaper ) really helps to keep a visual memory of library before opening it.

is there a way to impose the INDEX - order of library in the tab on the nict file ? i mean we are able to change the SNPID number but what about the index.
this way i would be able to open each one and give it order before actually adding library tabs . BUT i'm not even sure if this is even possible .

    i'm using a mac 10.8>
and of course first do the whole standalone before anything else but i simply cannot get past having the whole lib array added. what's the point in having up to 1000 SNPID if i can't add more than 150.
although the number is not small i admit it is very organised and according to the production i'm working on it would be easily accessed .

    thanks in advance

i dont know if this will help but here is what i would do
it will also take a bit of time but you only have to do it once.

some libraries only have one sound like 8DIO Solo Studio Violin,Alicias Keys,New York Concert Grand Library
with these you can rename the start of the folder to ( Violin 8DIO Solo Studio Violin) and do the same for all Violin libraries.

then rename all your piano libraries ( piano Alicias Keys ) ( piano New York Concert Grand Library ) ect
you can then find them easy in the files menu, and not have to add them to the kontakt libraries list,
other libraries that have lots of other sounds or instruments like Spitfire Audio Albion add them to the libraries tabs in kontakt.
this will clear up some space to sort out the mixed instruments packs,

think of it as a file menu system were there still arranged
by instruments and easy to find like what you were doing with all the sounds in the libraries tab,

    @Baxter LOOOOL ;)

It's perhaps a DATABASE related problem.

Try to delete your DATABASE and Untick "Add samples to database" in options.

I am sure Audiodesssey on the other forumZ has more Kontakt libraries than you

I sympathize with your concerns jagged - I have a lot of libraries too, and I agree that the file menu is not the same - seeing the graphic is worthwhile when browsing them, speeds the process up and leverages that image-association part of the brain. Nevertheless I have had to combine a lot of them to reduce the overall count. I piled all the NI pianos into one for example, combined all the 8Dio Claire libs, all the Spitfire strings, etc. This keeps the numbers down, but there are still enough that I would kill for more control over order and movement (dragging a lib to the bottom at a snail's pace through 150 others is absurd). If NI's database made it easier to tag, especially mass-tagging, I would rely less on the libs tab. I have been contemplating designing a massive Filemaker database to manage them, but I the prospect of all that data entry has kept me hoping someone will come up with a viable 3rd-party solution. I've given up waiting for NI to improve the database - their db's are actually getting worse.

yeah, I found that deleting the database for Kontakt improved it's performance or at least its ram footprint a lot. I too have a lot of libraries, some bought, some made myself (I have been sampling since the late 80's), and third party stuff... I know my library fairly well, as I have been amassing this collection for a long time, and it's not like I just downloaded some torrent of 2 tb's of crap.... I don't use the library tab much at all, I just use the file menu, as I usually know where things are that I want.... or have developed my quick load section into different go to categories like "pianos" "belly type stuff" "noise stuff" etc.... for quick and easy access... Remember that Kontakt keeps its database in ram with it's instantiation, so a LARGE library could bloat your footprint by 100's of megabytes of essentially marker information etc.... Definitiely UNTICK "Add Samples to Database" unless you want to REALLY bloat it...

This is very similar to what i have done with what i have. as in made the names abbreviations similar to nexus with PN for pianos in front of the name etc etc and you're quite right it helps a lot especially for organisation . however i sincerely do not wish to have to work through the database . some libraries end up with lots of sub folders and it takes away a lot of the workflow.
    cheers though. much appreciated

I'm quite positive it's a database issue and re- installed etc etc just to be sure . still trying to figure it out but i am nearly positive kONTAKT acts funny after 150 libraries added

i'm exactly the same. i recently upgraded to Komplete 10 and also purchased Komplete Kontrol . I've been collecting third party libraries and doing my own for quite some time .It's frustrating to have these problems with libraries disappearing , not keeping the order of index etc.

However i'm going to try a small exercise and see if it works. from the User/ library / preference NOT the Mc hd preference - i'm using a plist pro editor to input the index of order . this shows up after you close Kontakt and hopefully i would be able to organise it the way i want to considering there's no library manager for MAC ;-((

But for the now the problem is knowing if anyone managed to work with more than 150 libraries without causing database corruptions etc etc .

Search the forums, I believe there were a few topics on this subject. Maybe even a guide, not sure.
