Ever since new kontakt 5 updates have come out past v. 5.5.2, i cannot get it to work on my computer. I've updated windows 7, made sure all that bullshit was done and still everytime i install it just crashes on start up and my DAW doesnt even recognize it, though it recognizes other Native Instruments plugins.

any advice?

I am sorry to hear this, I wish I could help but I can not get past version 5.52 either, no matter what I try.
If I figure it out, I will be glad to help.

 

Try going to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Kontakt 5\Db and deleting the files inside:

Factory.kdb.cache
kontaktdb2
kontaktdb2_Lock

As far as the plugin goes make sure you have the x86 and x64 versions being scanned by the appropriate version of your DAW.

If you have placed the .dlls correctly and they are k'd properly, try renaming Kontakt5.dll to something like Kontkat5TEST and scanning again. Then change the name back and scan one more time.

If you're using the NO INSTALL_SYMLINK version right click the Kontakt5.dll and go to Properties and see if there's an option to Unblock the file.

5.5.2 gave me problems too (Win 8.1), so I go back to the 5.5.0 (the most stable) and 5.6.5 in the same pc.

 

What the fault module name etc? Couldn't read it from vid
Sometimes gives u some kind of info like Kontakt 5.exe or MSVCR120.dll etc that gives an idea of where problem lies.
If u on windows 7 make sure u have latest service pack as contains some drivers etc.
Could b a few things but most likely something simple. Try basic stuff like running as admin etc.
Sometimes is driver issues or Visual C++ etc or can b soundcard/driver issues or midi issues etc and looks like App itself crashing though u say DAW not picking up .dll either.
That probably also a good place 2 look. If your DAW not recognising .dll then something else not right.
Try extracting latest .dll from installer or renaming like pinkman and Ellin suggesting.
DAW should pick up .dll regardless of other installation issues etc unless of course it not installed in right place etc.
Could be a couple of things not quite right.
Fresh install after cleaning relevant locations quite often helps but won't always if you are missing run-time components needed for App etc.
Hope you manage to sort it out

MS has really messed up C, Basic and .Net runtime distribution.

 

thank you. all of you, for your very helpful responses. i have tried all of the above but to no avail. I am currently trying to uninstall and reinstall the runtimes to see if maybe that does anything, i will report back on that.

i have tried uninstalling with revo uninstaller pro, which scans the registry as well and deletes all traces of an application.

i did the regular install of kontakt 5 and i also tried the NO INSTALL_SYMLINK, to see if that would work. Again, the same crash.

My daw, which is samplitude, wont even recognized it. i try to open it on standalone and it crashes.

also, i use FLStudio and it crashes FLStudio as well.

i also just tried renaming the kontakt.dll to kontakt5test and then back. tested both. it still did not recognize kontakt. however, if i migrate back to 5.5.0 it works fine, but then i can't get the latest samples and libraries to work cause it needs the newest version of kontakt. Very frustrating as i have had problems in the past and thought i was over this.

 

Do you have Desktop Manager and/or Aero Turned off?

in the video it looked like custom work was done for extra performance. Did you disabled some drivers too?

Worth a try.

 

Install both the x86 and the x64 C Runtimes. The links are heavily used so if you don't get through, try again. They all work.

Also keep in mind, one user on the NI forum says Kontakt started working after he UN-installed 2015 C++ libraries.

EDIT - I just noticed you said that reverting to 5.5.0 works fine. This has me thinking that there is a problem in the way you are installing the current version causing it to crash. Which release are you using to update Kontakt?

I'd recommend trying the 5.6.5 Fixed No Keygen...No Install_Sym Link version. Once you have it, navigate into the folders till you see the actual files then replace the existing 5.5.0 installation with the 5.6.5 files.
Do this for every folder in the 5.6.5 version excluding the AAX if you don't do ProTools.
Make sure the 5.6.5 Program Files go into 5.5.0 Program Files.
Make sure the 5.6.5 Program Files (x86) go into 5.5.0 Program Files (x86)
x64 and x86 Kontakt.dlls aren't marked any different from each other. Only the folders containing them, so make sure you get the x86 in your 32-bit VST folder and the x64 in your 64-bit VST folder.
So on for all directories in the 5.6.5.

Apologies if you've done this already and find this useless. Just being thorough.

both are disabled, yes.

also, i have disabled some windows services via black vipers suggestions for tweaking for performance. i did try to re-enabled them to see if there was a difference and there wasn't. still no kontakt.

 

already updated on my system on the x64 and the x86 you do not need this for your system. thanks though. i appreciate it.
