im a noob i still blv its able to mix 808 low end kicks with heavy basslines...its just hell and so much work and experience is needed...make all dynamic and automated and bring bass in and out...
but no high output with such attitude heh heh...thats why they all stop the dream and have no low end kicks and shine as pro lol..

and think there are punchy 808 kicks out there...but not as toktok as percussion or stuff yea

I have an interesting technique that could be called "parallel distortion".

I send the kick through a hw distortion pedal, adjust to taste, then mix it back with the clean kick. Kinda like parallel compression, but since I use distortion...

I don't use this technique just for kick, of course. Bass, pads, vocals... whatever needs more "juice".

It's very useful on many many things. Especially the parallel EQ/filter->parallel dist->parallel EQ/filter. I also use it quite frequently.

Usually a song that has a kick with a lot of low end (like 808s in hiphop) doesn't have a bass with a lot of low end, bass sounds are often the low keys of piano sounds or string sounds(i.e not a mono synth with a sine at 40Hz)
On the opposite genres like dnb that have bass synthesizzers with a lot of low end,the kick is thin,it's Hi passed.

You must take decisions, your low end will be taken by your bass or your kick, but hardly both(it's relative of course, you always have a both in some amount).

    yea right...
    hardly its able....lot of headache..
not so for hip hop / i like only dnb with breaks..breaks have less low end...so my prefered dnb has full low end bass....

low end kick and low end bass in 4*4 is sort of able.kind of fakin it..sure you cant sum it all together in same timepoint..reverb,stereo imaging ,dynamic eq,sidchaining, trackspacer, automation and chances are good it wont work but it can work....i blv..heh heh
or part low end in multible bands...low end is maybe wrong term...cause i try give bass as much overtones as possible...i dont like leads mostly..good drone style....heavy bassline...smash youre face drums...sort of melody comes from ridiculous effect chains and groove of all together..
edm genre dont kno groove at all and even less dirty groove

maybe im just crazy but i dont give up on that...no

Back then i heard Dillinja , who was building amps, is a specialist in frequencies, and his tunes may have severall basses layered in diff freq spectrum.
Check for yourself, although i guess it has to be played from vinyl in a club environment to really hear what he did to his tunes, nothing i could confirm from my end.

Played this tune from him at a party when i was in school, afterwards they told me to never ever play again at a school party:drummer:!

In this great track the kick hasn't much low end,it's more around 150 Hz

    EDIT: I love Metalheadz !

Yeah, same thought here after posting it, offtopic a bit. But the layering of bass freq dillinja may be famous for made me posting it.
But good you keep us on track (on topic)!
By the way, no problem with your language so far, you posted valuable information!

last time I got pretty solid kick sound using just Overloud Gem EQ495 on kick mic, Waves Torque on subkick, SPL Transient Designer on kick bus, and mild Overloud Gem Comp76, SPL Vitalizer MK2-T and Overloud REmatrix on drum bus
