Kazrog has released ValvEQ, a Baxandall-inspired mastering and mixing EQ with Kazrog's Thermionik vacuum tube emulation built in.

The EQ features lo cut, hi cut, lo shelf, and hi shelf bands with contiguous frequency control. The valve section can be disabled for a solid state EQ topology. Mid/Side processing toggle allows for equalization of the stereo image for a greater feeling of depth, width, and heft in your mix.

Why Baxandall?
Baxandall style EQs (named after Peter Baxandall) allow for large scale changes in the frequency response of a given source without harsh resonances or exaggerated phase effects associated with other types of filters. They can be incredibly useful on many sources, and are often used in major mastering studios.

ValvEQ is included in the Kazrog Complete Collection 1 bundle – this means that if you already own the bundle (or purchase it today), you will receive this plugin when it is released in April for Mac and Windows in VST, AU and AAX plug-in formats. After release, this plugin returned to further testing for audio quality improvement / fixing, because one guy from gearslutz noticed some odd noise and bad distortion, and sounded more digital than valve-like, especially when processing simple sounds such as 808 bass drum, sub bass etc. There on gearslutz were posted dry and wet samples.
Be careful to use this so much. Some Kazrog stuff is still buggy and odd, for example masterdither, which I didn't like so much in first minutes of testing. Bob Ohlsson on gearslutz noticed some bad coding of dithering as well.

 

Yes mpm, Kazrog products do nothing for me. There are freeware plugins that sound much better and are less buggier. e.g. anything from Tokyo Dawn Records, VladG, or Klanghelm.

And I'm not going to criticise the GUI because at least it doesn't feature the stupid 3D perspective that seems to be all the rage lately and upper perspective seems to be "in". Steven Slate crap for instance. Thankfully his plugins are nothing special so IDG a F.

Actually I'm going to criticise the GUI a little: all Kazrog plugins look like they could use bigger buttons. There's lots of wasted space. Nobody likes that, eh? Especially we poor guys with small 27" monitors.
