I think we can all finally just accept the fact that Kontakt is going to have an endless library of shit made by random noob developers...

How many do we have to seriously post here? Okay, we get it...new Kontakt stuff...c'mon...

It's beginning to be more annoying than posting random youtube videos and making the lounge section of any forum oversaturated with random vids.

I think there needs to be a sub-category in this forum for anything related to Kontakt because it just gets ridiculous in the main Software News section...

Kontakt releases aren't really NEW software...Kontakt itself is a piece of software...and it is not new and certainly not NEWS...anything released on Kontakt is a
    Kontakt add-on...

C'man guys... let's post plugins and releases that are ACTUALLY NEW and original...something different that we haven't seen before...

just a fuck'n opinion so don't go nuts on my ass...

    It's software news...
Eventually we might have a separate thread for Free libraries and Giveaways but in the interim I don't really see the big deal. There wouldn't have been much news period had it not been for some kind members that put up info about free Kontakt libraries.

Think of Expansions for Kontakt, that are Kontakt Libraries - you can delete, "install" new ones or get updates for them, i dont think its bad to get news about them, im more tired of reading - i got this problem with Kontakt or is nexus able use cracked expansion with my legit version.
(might make a sticky thread about that ...)
and whats wrong with any news, you can decide if want to read them or if you just skip them. *yes*

what is garbage to you is gold to others, some people have a conscience and refuse to use cracked libraries, so free libraries guarantees you to go to heaven, hahaha, who cares if the free libraries are cluttering the forums, just deal with it and move on, just sayin

While I get from this and other posts that the OP doesn't care for Kontakt, he raises some interesting points and ones I've considered myself. I'm obviously one of those newbies releasing the shit. In fact I had to do a quick re-release after someone found an odd ringing in one of the notes of my piano, that someone was kind enough to post here, messing up the links. It doesn't come much newbier than that.

So is there any value in free Kontakt libraries that certainly don't compete on an aural or visual level with paid instruments and of course require
Kontakt in order to run? In my thought process, I've tried to fill niches. Even the piano as the most mainstream I thought might be good as a mockup instrument or for someone with extreme memory limitations / slow harddrive as it weighs in at a touch under 200 megs fully loading into memory with no streaming. I did an odd digitally reworked Gamelan, a lightly sampled Tiple and a unique Finger Piano as things that might not exist elsewhere. The doors as a weird, very niche sound effect machine of doors opening and closing that no mainstream company would ever do and dark designs as an ambient Halloween machine just for experimental fun.

Currently I'm messing with a lightly sampled collection of solo and duet voices because those seem to be hard to find and they might add some texture for folks. Also eventually to learn about keyswitching. The other project is a sax just because I like saxs and can't find any I like at a low cost. Also in this case to learn editing from a long string of sounds and again keyswitching. Are they worth releasing or is it really just an annoyance to folks who already have far more and better sounding instruments scattered all over their hard drives?

Personally I think there is value to be had from such libraries and I'm even intrigued by things that are more niche. In fact everything you've described sounds quite interesting and useful to me. On a related note, I was talking to a friend of mine here the other day and he brought up the fact that developers should use forums such as this for feedback because it can open up a lot of possibilities. I invite you to open a topic and integrate a poll into it and the community would be happy to let you know what we think.

And I used to play tenor sax back in the day.

To keep it short and sweet, if you've got talent with recording the original material well (that's the key!) and program half-decently, there's still a market for literally every orchestral instrument. Non-orchestral instruments vary (there are already plenty of basic guitar libraries, for instance).

Samples being what they are, it's always handy to have a different one "in the toolbox" for when either your mainstay doesn't work, or you just want a different tone entirely. A perfect example is Blakus' Pocket Cello. It was pretty simple, was released for free, but because the tone quality was so astounding, it was picked up, re-recorded and turned into a commercial library by Embertone(Embertone Blakus Cello). I wouldn't necessarily hope for that same result, but if you can put a decent instrument out there, I can assure you some people will absolutely love it.

    Thanks for your kind replies.
I've been using public domain samples, so not exactly the highest quality stuff. Someday I do hope to start to do some sampling of my own. I just added a bit of scripting and some twiddly knobs to my public domain piano project, so I'll toss that up and see the interest if any.
