    Hi all,

As I read in the account rules - I am aware that my first submission will be heavily moderated. I am using this post as a way to introduce myself (briefly) but also wanted to discuss the post topic in depth.

I will keep the introduction at the bottom so you don't have to read it if you just want to discuss Line 6 HELIX.
    _________

I've had a dozen or two "multi-FX" processors over the years, preferring them to pedalboards with individual boxes (even though I've gone that route too). Varied from super cheap (Digitech), to very old (Boss GT-Pro), to rare (Oberheim GM!), to somewhat expensive (Fractal Axe FX - multiple iterations but not FX3).

I just got a deal on a Helix Stomp XL with Native (VI) for free. I am fully aware that I don't need any more hardware OR software but I do this ever couple years thinking "This will unlock that creativity". Man, I'm such a fool..

Does anyone here use a HELIX product? Do you love it? Hate it? Why? What is good/bad about the hardware/software, in your opinion?

Caveat Emptor: I did not join this site to discuss HELIX - I joined because I found some great threads while researching certain things we're not supposed to <crack> discuss here. Thought you folks seemed alright.

    Introduction:

Lifelong musician, father was a savant who helped design and build the first A/Ds, but had a reputation for consoles and modular EQs and Dynamics in the 70s and 80s. I've worked live sound, studio gopher, mix engineer, producer, and later mastering engineer under the tutelage of the guy who used to run Northeastern Digital in... well, the Northeast.

Any questions about my personal audio life are welcome if that doesn't break the rules.

Anyway, I play all the "rock" instruments save for any woods or brass. I started drumkit around age 0 (ha) then picked up the guitar at like 12?

So I now just middle around at a startup that has nothing to do with

Jumping into the Line 6 Helix world is an exciting journey! Whether you're new to amp modelers or transitioning from pedals, here’s a structured guide to help you get started effectively:

    Getting Started with Helix
    1. Start Simple: Amp + Cab First
Begin with a clean slate: create a new preset with just an amp and cab block. Experiment with different amp models and EQ settings to understand how they interact. This approach helps you grasp the fundamentals before adding complexity. line6.com+17reddit.com+17reddit.com+17adamharkus.com+4line6.com+4sweetwater.com+4reddit.com

    2. Utilize HX Edit for Visual Editing
HX Edit, the desktop companion app, offers a user-friendly interface to build and tweak presets. It allows you to see your signal chain visually, making it easier to understand and modify your setup.

    3. Explore Presets and Templates
Helix comes with a variety of factory presets. Start by exploring these to get a feel for different sounds. You can also download additional presets from the Line 6 Marketplace or CustomTone. Analyzing these presets can provide insights into signal routing and effect usage. helixhelp.com+2reddit.com+2reddit.com+2afteraudio.com

Many users recommend starting with the basics and gradually building complexity:

"Start with an amp and a cab. Run through all the amps with the same cab. Change cabs and do it again. Or, keep the amp and change cabs, just don't change both." reddit.com+1reddit.com+1

This approach helps you understand the core components before adding effects and other elements.

    Experiment and Have Fun
The Helix is a powerful tool that offers endless possibilities. Don't be afraid to experiment with different setups and sounds. The more you play around, the more you'll learn about what works best for your style.

If you have specific genres or tones in mind, feel free to ask for tailored preset suggestions or further guidance!
