Does he still play the keyboards?

I only ever see him standing around holding bits of gear.

I prefer Moore/Sherinian over Rudess in DT.
Technical yes,but not good in writing powerful simple harmonic parts,he suffers from too much knowledge.
And since Portnoy left i lost interest in them.

I like most of the stuff he does, because usually when he starts off something, he wants to do it well.
He's a very technical guy, and you can see it in how he applied his classical education in Rock music, in how he works with gear, and in how he designs unique iOS apps.
Can't say that for his activities in endorsement however - I'm sure that for an acceptable amount of money, he'll promote any product, and this is why I have a hard time to trust his words while he does it. Always gives me a little smile when he's up with another fantastic product that is awesome at the same time.
Check out this video, especially from 1:56 on.

But hey, it's a job, and not a bad one so I won't blame him for doing it.

C U on the road! :bleh:

When I see Rudess promoting a product I always get an urge to acquire at least 2 or 3.

Man that's a funny video, fiction. :hahaha: Thanks!

Rudess = "Kalashnikov" keyboardist :hahaha: (playing more quickly than assault rifle, but he's an excellent keyboardist, however).
Trying to discover Moore & Sherinian, good post IMO, :thanks:

EDIT: they're many "Moore" keyboardists (googl search), presuming is... Kevin? (TIA)
My favorites are Rick Wakeman :keys: Tony Banks, Vangelis and... Tangerine Dream!

i d start to like DT again only if they finally decided to fire james la brie and hire someone who can sing, possibly without adapting the pronuncuation of the words to his singing

Yes, Kevin Moore. Check Images & Words, Awake, When Dream and Day Unite and Live at the Marquee for Dream Theater's best keyboard era (closely followed by Derek)

No wonder, with a classical background and a tendency to perfectionism.
I don't think that's a problem however. He definitely has his own style.

Another guy with equally great technique but lotsa "funk" on top:
    The Brazilian Thiago Pinheiro.
Aah and btw, he plays great keyboard too
