It would be the exact same thing if someone was to create a thread that said "Switch to Windows, it's great". Same thing with MacOS.
That seems to be the main point you selectively ignore. "Let me convince you about how I should be explaining to you why you should switch something I barely know how to use". That's how these threads read, and that is the typical responses they get. It is pretty disingenuous to act surprised when people reply to such obvious content farming in ways that do not care much for bs.

You aren't convincing me to use Linux, just Linux for Audio. And doing a poor job of it so far. Where were you when I was still learning and writing init scripts for Slackware using LiLo as a horrible bootloader to install b|t3, testing primitive (other than Alfa) cards for multi-interface monitor mode and packet injection, compiling nvidia drivers, CUDA toolchains for Pyrit, running BurpSuite/Netsparker/Maltego for OSINT, and stitching Metasploit chains into post-exploitation pivots when I needed you? You were running Windows.

The reason why "Open Source" matters, is because if these kinds of threads were posted about any commercial product; they would be deleted as spam.

"Dynebolic, a GNU/Linux distribution renowned for its multimedia capabilities, has made a comeback with the release of Dynebolic 4.0, based on Devuan 5 'Daedalus'. This release marks a significant revival after nearly a decade of dormancy, positioning Dynebolic as a portable, live-only operating system designed specifically for multimedia production. The distribution is built around a revamped user interface and a workflow-centric approach, utilizing the KDE 5 Plasma desktop environment with its 'Activities' feature rebranded as distinct creative 'workflows' for streaming, audio, video, graphics, and publishing."

I had settled on the related Pure:Dyne, and was kind of excited about it, but/until it became defunct.
I had even ordered the free Ubuntu CD (Warty Warhog) in the mail. I had it installed until my computer fell off a table and its hard drive stopped working. Couldn't blame that on the OS.
    ____
I had been using Win7 even while 11 was long ago out and when I got a new computer with W11 preinstalled on it, I used it until it locked me out of my own computer, using Bit Locker.
After many WTFs, Linux tests/possibilities (Mint, Ubuntu Studio, Audio Linux, etc., [and I almost tried the supposedly super-secure Qubes Linux-- looks cool]), I found a way to get 'a' [not mine] Win11 back on my system and without the usual email registration and whatever else it wanted.
    ____
In the above teeth-pulling processes, I also read a bit of someone talking about how Linux should have an 'official Linux', maybe so that it's the one distro that's more in the 'it just works' 'out-of-the-box' category (at least for audio?) than the others.
    ____
I also use Apple OS (silicon) and have been using Linux off and on for a long time. I even attended a Linux In The Park with Red Hat's Alan Cox. He actually wore a red hat to it. It was a lovely summer day and there was free food too. 'Come for the free food, stay for the Linux.'

Some of you might know that Linux (and W11) can now run on Apple's silicon machines, too. Try it if you're adventurous, or desperate, or desperately-adventurous. I hear the Linux runs faster than Apple's own OS.

Well this isn’t the first time I’ve seen you bring up open source like this in a bit of moralist issue, so I’m a bit surprised you’re even mentioning it here. It’s really not for our forum. :) I also think you’re being a little too critical of people who make threads about Linux—let them brag a bit! I don’t think that’s the case here, but anyway. I don’t see anything wrong with it. After all, the person has accomplished something through their work, and I’m just glad to see people succeeding.

There is an entire sub-forum here with Linux threads in it, that no-one ever bothers with. A desolate place here, where this thread doesn't even belong, because it isn't about Linux at all. It's not to paraphrase "coming into my house and etc", it's like you banging on someone's front door like a jehovas' witness and them telling you where you can go stick it.

PC users try to answer actual "Mac threads" in the Mac subforum about how to actually work using the OS or about audio-related topics.

A thread like this one is not meant to be informative of anything at all. It is Foster trying his hand at Operating System discussion.

Perhaps you believe the whole "2 months thing" but I do not. It's another version of brand new user: "tee-hee, let me tell you about the notes!".
If you want to play that game, at least lie and say you are using Ubuntu.

    Any other "OS/DAW war" such threads, thinly veiled such as this one or not; are frequently locked or deleted. When the entire purpose of the thread is such, that is so old hat it is spam. When it cannot even be supported and validated by inconvenient things like facts and numbers;
that's when you end up trying to argue with others about the subject you created yourself. (2nd person "you").

When you basically ask for confrontational information by creating clickbait threads, you shouldn't be surprised when you get it. When you first want to attack others personally because " they don't understand your super-intelligent topic", then find out that won't fly; then you flip to "who needs to be so smart to make music?" . That is just some other weak version of playing the victim.

This is all in the first chapter of Trolling for Dummies. Trolling is the bait (clickbait thread), disingenuous is the act of pretending innocence, and gaslighting is the psychological manipulation after the bait hits. Boring, useless, and utterly predictable. If you cannot grep that, Try Harder™.

Thank you @paul_audioz, I always read your posts with enthusiasm; they are all very sensible, far-sighted, and practical.

Microsoft makes its money from licenses.
Apache Office 4 is free and performs all tasks just as well as the paid Microsoft Office suite.

If you employ 100 people, all working on PCs, that's 100 individual user licenses that you have to pay Microsoft for.
A study shows that Microsoft's software monopoly costs us billions of euros.

In Germany, many cities and municipalities are switching from Windows to Linux due to cost pressures. In short,
money is becoming scarce, and people are looking for ways to save, which leads them to Linux and open source.

When you buy a product, for example, a hardware synthesizer, the costs of Microsoft licenses, interest on loans from major banks, and other expenses are included in the sales price. As a customer, you always pay for all these unnecessary costs without exception.

Microsoft is not making so much money on licenses these days, but from its cloud services - subscriptions, data collecting, and AI which is the ultimate data collector. What bothers me the most about Windows, MacOS, Android, and ChromeOS is that you don't own the device you paid for, you don't own the system on the device you paid for, and you don't have complete control over your data. Most people are just monetisation puppets.

That's why even my smartphone is rid of most of this corporate stuff and I use F-Droid with FOSS Android software. I don't like being a monetisation puppet, I like to own my device and I like to have complete control over my system and programs. I'm currently looking at ways how to install Linux on my phone. It's been enough of bending over, man. My sore arse can take only so much.

You should have seen me reacting to my new Galaxy A72 couple of years ago. I paid good money for it, only to find out it's not mine, actually. My jaw not just dropped but has fallen off completely, so I ended up in surgery where they had to stitch it back. :rofl:Man I was so pissed off. The point is - it's happening with everything these handful of money grabbing corporations push at us. They want to own you, your data, your money, your mind, everything. No, thanks!

Regarding Debian Linux upgrades @paul_audioz I was sceptical at first coming from Windows where that is an incredibly difficult task. Like, all you have to do is edit your repository sources, put in the name of the new release instead of the old one, and do an apt update. Like, really??? I made a backup of my OS beforehand, for just in case. Didn't need it.

There is the detailed procedure in Debian Wiki, but in essence it is that simple. I think it's a good habit to investigate the changes before you do it, though, just in case.

I honestly would have considered making a thread about switching to MacOS - but there's one big difference to that. MacOS and Windows are officially supported, so there's no real need for anything other than dropping a liver worth of dollars on a machine, the OS, the DAW, and the plugins, and you're done; which is, as unfortunate as that is, not the case on Linux.

I am not trying to convince everyone. There's one specific type of people - who are already interested in Linux but are unsure or inexperienced. They are on the fence. They are ready to take the plunge, but they feel like they won't pull it off and give up. This is who this post is for.
If you already tried Linux and decided it's not for you, my post won't convince you, and it's not trying to.

Thank you for the kind words ❤️.

It's not meant to be informative on its own, but I do explicitly state: hey, I have experience with all of these, if you want/need help, ask me. Maybe it's the wrong approach, but I was not ready to write a guide that would be entirely too personalized to my use case to be useful. Nevertheless, any specific part of my journey I'd gladly write up - if there's a demand for it.

What the fuck. What do you believe then lol

Well, you obviously you seem to bother a lot. How else would you explain the number of your contribution in this post: 6.
I would say that 6 is quite a large number for a post in a sub-forum where obviously no-one ever bothers with.

If for some reason I have offended you, please accept my apologies. If not, please add me to your ignore members list.

Ah, thank you. Nice to read. I was already rather spooked by the harsh reaction of Clone. I thought by myself what did I say that caused this reaction? In my opinion I was just answering a question. Maybe it is because I am not a native English speaking person? Was my translation to English a bit clumsy?
And I would like to return the compliment. I always admire the time you spend to answer questions.

Really? That would do the trick? If it is that simple, why are so many people advising to do a clean install of MX25? And what happens with the small bugs I have in my MX21, like for example when Chrome or Firefox is updated, my quick start icons are lost. After a restart they come back or sometimes after one hour or so. Or my Systemd is not working at all. Will that be corrected or will that remain wrong?
One of the reasons I am experimenting with Manjaro is that that is a rolling distribution. But your trick would make MX also rolling!

Good post @mitori . Why don't you include your basic PC specs? CPU, GPU and so on.
