    P.Lion - Dreams (1984)

    P. Lion - Springtime (1984) [Full Album] (Italo-Disco)

P Lion - A Step In The Right Way (1995)

    Who composed this songs:

    P. Lion (Pietro Paolo Pelandi, born June 29, 1959 in Alzano Lombardo) is an Italian singer, pianist and songwriter who was successful in the mid-1980s, during the Italo disco wave. His biggest hit in 1984 was Happy Children

Pietro Paolo Pelandi started playing the piano and writing songs at an early age. He studied and became a chemical engineer. In the 1980s began the career as 'P. Lion'. The 'P.' in the artist name stands for the three 'P's of his initials; 'Lion', the lion, is the heraldic animal of his family.
In 1983 Davide Zambelli of Scotch produced the single Happy Children. The Italo-disco track became internationally famous and reached top 20 positions in the singles charts in both Germany and Switzerland. The single Dream reached number 24 in the German hit parade in 1984. The song was the theme music of the French TV and radio chart show Top 50 between 1984 and 1993, and a remix of Happy Children was released in 2000.

After the 1984 album Springtime, P. Lion moved to Discomagic, which was the biggest dance label in Italy at the time. There he produced his singles Believe Me and Under the Moon himself, but could not achieve the success of his first hits. The 1995 album A Step in the Right Way ... also went largely unnoticed. Pelandi also worked as an arranger, including for Betty Villani and Tony Sheridan.

@BEAT16: Thanks for digging up that story, but the music it mentions doesn't have that early, raw Italo sound, this is plane old disco. Giorgio comes close, but he produced his tracks in Germany. As for ZYX, they only played a (big) role in commercialising Italo from the mid eighties onwards.

Check out these tracks: 40 years old (!!)

The Immortals - The Ultimate Warlord

Hi @boomoperator, thank you for the music. Yes you are right, it really sounds different, more defined and clearer. I like it very much. The Belgians have a great music scene for ages. Front 242 and Signal Aout 42 are also from Belgium for example.

The Immortals "The Ultimate Warlord", first released in 1979, is widely believed to be one of the first Hi-NRG records. It was produced by Ian Guenther and Willi Morrison who were responsible for some of disco's greatest productions.

They are also known by their work on THP Orchestra, Grand Tour, Duncan Sisters, Big Smoke, Sticky Fingers and Skatt Brothers. Their touch was always musically innovative and always magical. No doubt that their production of The Immortals pushed them far ahead of their sound. The 12" almost has a Euro sound with Patrick Cowley synth stylings thrown in. This was a single played often by DJ Bobby Viteritti of Trocadero Transfer.

Patrick Cowley - Megatron Man (1982)

Patrick Cowley - They Came at Night (1981)

    Divine - Shake It Up

    Divine - Shoot Your Shot

Harris Glenn Milstead, better known by his stage name Divine (October 19, 1945 – March 7, 1988), was an American actor, singer, and drag queen. Closely associated with the independent filmmaker John Waters, Divine was a character actor, usually performing female roles in cinematic and theatrical appearances, and adopted a female drag persona for his music career. This single reached #8 in the Netherlands Top 40.

AWESOME thread by OP ,thanks man

i grew up on disco sounds and recently discovered italo sound as it was just days ago i was talking to
OP himself my buddy @BEAT16 about discovering mike mareen and he gave me interesting info about MM gear
(which beat16 informed me it was DX7 synthesizer..thanks man )

of course artists like G.moroder /JMJ /F.R.David work got my attention to this disco/italo disco world
and i remember i started writing down names of these producers and creating my missing songs/albums of these producers
like michael cretu /dieter bohlen/tony hendriks/axel B. and i got hooked with the sounds of bad boys blue/sandra/modern talking
and started checking discog page to checkout other less known producers too who produced the twins/boytronic
london boys /kim wilde/,even during 90s i was digging five stars from and the jets /bananarama/joy peters /joy and alot more

and i do recognize alot of famous sounds comes straight from these 70s and 80s synthesizers
    like moog/arp 2000/jupiter/juno/OB/CMI/EMU/
and early italo songs were build on these synths as far as i know

lets hope arturia and roland continue to bring more of these synthsizers back with old and ne soundsets for the new generation
and im hoping they can bring russians synths like krumar and japanes ones like kawai synths back to lifewith newer models

In Spain, Italo disco music was quite popular in the 1980's. I was quite fond of this "group" (actually, I guess it was a team of two DJs). They made the firsts remixes / mashups I heard. They chose the name "Pink Project" because their first hit was a remix of a couple of hit songs by Pink Floyd and The Alan Parsons Project. Here you are!

Here are 2 links for top notch synthesizers and it costs nothing. I have tested them all and can recommend them.
I'm sure you'll find something you can use.

Nils' K1v is a classic rompler that emulates the Kawai K1, a famous japanese classic from 1988.

    Great music, thank you guys
From time to time I try to play my keyboards as I were in the 80’s, but nothing: all it comes out is modern synthwave… it is not so easy to catch the 80s real vibe. I believe that the difference is made by the vision of the future that was present in that era, after all, playing with synths was considered absolute innovation.
I follow with pleasure a youtube channel called Synthmania.
Paolo - the host - is an italian guy that actually plays music like in the 80s: same vintage synths, same progressions same old school technical solutions (sync in-out between gear, trigger bass from drum machine ecc. but, most of all, same 80’s vibe. The channel has great songs, interesting tutorials, gear reviews and unboxing videos

    A Synthmania song:

    A Synthmania tutorial:

Although we grew up in the same city with Paolo (Rome) and shared the same music scene, I never had the chance to meet him: too bad, culturally I feel he is my brother

    Hi emage :)

have a look at this inlay from a CD-R by Hiroshi Futami (from " World Famous ") (((:)))))))

i like that relaxed N.O.I.A.-style in question of build-up and things

right before is my favourite Koto-track (it was the 4th. Koto-Hitsingle if i'm right)

i wonder what N.O.I.A does stand for?

Hi, Shanti. - I'm Spanish, but Pink Project came from Italy - I just happened to be quite fond of their remixes. I remember that song by Ivan "Fotonovela". Well, it was a hit especially among teenage girls, but it had a nice sound.
There were other Spanish acts who made good eighties' techno-pop songs and instrumentals. I'm going to share with you guys some of my favourites:
    1) Azul y Negro - Techno-Pop Duo who became quite famous, as a couple of their songs were chosen to make the soundtrack to our "Tour-de-Spain" cycling broadcasts (Kraftwerk's "Tour de France" was released later!!!). Here's one of them "Me estoy volviendo loco" (I'm going crazy)

    2) Tino Casal - David Bowie's influence on his personal image was obvious (he recorded a version of "Life on Mars?"). He had several hits during the eighties and early nineties, even. He died an untimely death in a car crash in the center of Madrid. One of his most popular songs was "Embrujada" (Bewitched)

    3) Video - "La noche no es para mí" (Night's not for me). A short-lived one-hit wonder from Valencia. Their lead singer passed away a couple of years or so ago due to breast cancer, if I remember that right. Here it is for your listening pleasure.

I hope you guys enjoy these few examples of Spanish 80's techno-pop/dance music!

Another Spanish find: three Space Disco Sessions by DJ Simplexia. Great mixes with music based on 80’s space disco,
but the majority was actually produced in the 21st century. The first:
