I've used Cubase a fair bit but never really used Nuendo. Now, with R2Rs releases, is there any point in using Cubase over Nuendo now? Both seem to get updates simultaneously from Steinberg and my understanding is that Nuendo is essentially Cubase + Extras (for post production, surround sound, mastering etc)?

Therefore, is there any point in installing just Cubase if using R2R versions, or is it now a case of may as well just use Nuendo? Or does Cubase have things Nuendo doesn't?

He doesn’t know what he’ll achieve. He knows what he can achieve with either of them, neither.

Frankly, no, there is no point, IMO.

Until you tell us what you're missing in Cubase, for example, it's hard to give you a good answer.

Perhaps this overview will help. It lists the most important differences between Cubase and Nuendo. Maybe you'll find something that Nuendo has that you really want to use.

I'm not saying I'm missing anything. I'm asking if Cubase is essentially included within Nuendo, and the other extras to assist with post, spatial mixing, and so on, then why would people be installing Cubase right now? From what I've seen, the UI, features, most of the addons etc, are identical. Therefore, why wouldn't people just install Nuendo and have the extra options in case they ever needed them?

I guess the way I see it is that Cubase is a DeLorean that got me around and to where I needed, but Nuendo has that extra flux capacitor waiting for time travel to be discovered, so why wouldn't you just be using the one with the flux capacitor in case you discover the need for it instead of limiting yourself by using the former?!

    Most important Cubase is cheaper
2nd most of the conform task are not needed in cubase (mostly for film/Protools integrations)
3rd maybe moot in the near future, is the advanced spatial features of nuendo
+ there are some workflow differences in nuendo which are also film/Video Specific

cant remember but its stupid shit like
TV folks like to to zoom with left to right motion
while Film folks like forward backward motion
Neither of them takes a camera if it doesn't have this specific function
Strange but that's a true thing in the industrie(s)

Tried it for about a month, didn't use anything Cubase didn't have, went back to using Cubase. Unless your regularly working in Film and Television its difficult to justify the bloat it adds. Its a bit like VSTs too much and what's the point. But your right its the same program just with a bit extra for post production. Do you have a 22.2 surround system for monitoring?

Neundo has everything cubase has plus.... some vsts. some surround & atmos stuff, there is a comparison list on steinberg website that shows you the exact difference but theres nothing neundo doesnt have that cubase does.. so i stick to nuendo but if you want less list & dropdown menus & your not missing or need anything strick on cubase ??

Plus, just like in Cubase, you can customize the menu entries, so if there are functions you don't use, you don't even have to look at them.

So, having just done a clean install and upgrade of my Windows PC components, I'm now contemplating whether to install R2R's Cubase or Nuendo 12. I'm currently leaning towards Nuendo having reviewed the differences on Steinberg site and seeing that the only thing Cubase has over it is VST Transit, whereas Nuendo has some extra audio effects, mixing features, video features, game audio and sound design features and so on, so would seem like a no brainer unless anyone tell me otherwise?!

well, nuendo is bigger . . . more modules for video, adr, etc . . . more conflicts whith external vsts , slow DAW in older computers, more ram to run the daw... blah blah bla If you only make music, use cubase . . . . more clear, more ram for computer . . .

The defaults are suited for music production in Cubase. Nuduendo defaults are setup for post video in my opnion… other than changing a few things around I see no need to use Cubase.

I wonder? How is Nuendo more solid in Audio features than Cubase in your opinion?

I think it has more audio editing features, though they are more related to post production
