Is there a program out there that does what Audacity does — only better?

All non-completely-crap audio editors are practically the same, VST platforms in fact. Most important differences are about FX chaining possibilities, handy and pleasant user interface, intuitive and flexible workspaces and plugins handling.
Multitrack recording and mixing, batch processing, effects, analysis and restoration tools etc. are more or less primitive and more of a decoration, or to entertain amateurs.
So most often I use WavePad as a plugin platform and simple editor, which is just 4.5MB exe, loads in a flash, works without any own dlls or creating a complex folder structure, and leaves no garbage behind. Its time stretching module is very satisfactory. Although no poster here seems to had ever tried it, it looks prettier and is more handy to use than most of audio editors mentioned.
