I know the devs have been accused of a lot of shady shit so I'm wondering if this release works well for everyone.

In itself it is working...IF you don't have previous cracked versions of their plugins installed (or remnants of old installations probably) and IF you don't have reFx Vanguard cracked installed. In addition, I've only used it with my host being blocked from going online so that might be important as well.

This is on both Mac & PC.

Vanguard was co-developed by Luigi who runs Tone2. As was the refx stuff previous to taht. He was responsible for the filter algos of Vanguard. He put checks into his Tone2 software to check for cracked versions of Vanguard.

Here's some information about this provided by the AiR release of Gladiator 2.2
    Tone2 Gladiator VSTi v2 2 READ NFO-AiR

? Markus has coded his plugins to look for other Tone2 ?
? and reFX registry entries, if blacklisted serials are ?
? found then his MALWARE is invoked. These include ?
? Firebird, FilterBank, Warmverb, Gladiator, Vanguard ?
    ? ?
    ? # Filesystem scanning... ?
    ? ?
? Markus has coded his plugins to look for other ?
? products keyfiles, if blacklisted keyfiles are found ?
? then his MALWARE is invoked. This includes FireBird, ?
    ? FilterBank, Warmverb, Gladiator ?

Well we all know that Air statement years ago was it 2008? or maybe even 2006?
I run Vanguard and Tone2 side by side but i do not have them in the same folder in my Vst dir as the license file for Tone2 is suppose to be in the same place as the dll

I have the both the Tone2 DOA pack and Vanguard running fine on OSX without any problems whatsoever. I haven't noticed anything weird about the Tone2 pack either.

    Here is what i did

I dont either have an internet connection but i followed the solution to install in different vst folder.

So i change the default dir in the register.(windows of course)
so it pointed to another dir than usual.
(just in case as i have read of that scanning and wiping thing this plugin would do)

(hit run type regedit in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE down at the bottom you find the key VST now chage that to whatever you like.

In Win 7 64 bit you have two keys one in the same location as above the other one you will find in Wow6432Node you have to change both otherwise nothing will happen and the installers will use the default vst folder usually c:\program files\steinberg\vst plugins ....i have my default on a different hd.)

And then i installed Saurus to those "temporary vst folders" then i move everything to my "real" vst folder this was about 2 weeks ago nothing has happend to any of Tone 2 vst i had before i.e filterbank gladiator etc etc...they all work.

Here is another more simple solution

Easy solution: Just unpack the setup.exe with Universal Extractor, then copy the extracted files to your VST dir, including licence. No problems here.

Just to be sure i had top try a couple and they still works

Yes, I try to use keys in the same folder but with no luck. But indeed there is a planty of other vst instruments and I don't need to use Tone2 :)

Well I would make a separate subfolder within my VSTPlugins folder for Tone2 software. Would that not work?

I created specific folders for every single plugin not all Tone2 in the same folder i.e Electra in one folder called Electra (or whatever you like to call it) and Bifilter in one folder called "you guessed it" Bifilter which of course is in a subfolder in the main folder called filter

I do that b.t.w for all plugins all filters in one folder all delay in one all reverb in one all Eq in on folder etc etc as it is then easy to find them in my DAW

I've done the same thing...but differently.

On Win, Ableton can "see" shortcuts.

So i created "virtual" folders, with all my plugs sorted by genre (effects>compressor or synths>FM), containing ONLY shortcuts to DEFAULT path VST install folder plugin DLL.

    >I don't need to change default install folder (sometimes creating errors)
    >I can change shortcut folder without changing DLL location, or even create double sorting without errors
    >I can put FX dll version inside ANOTHER folder (synth dll in Synths, and FX dll version in Effects)
    And probably more

It works with Ableton, but i don't know about other DAWs...

Yes Cubase could see links back in the days to bad it can´t do that anymore i don´t know if any other DAW can see links Reaper has a nice file search simply put in some letters and you can see the plugins you can also expand the plugin window so you can have the folder hierarchy as it is on the harddrive.

But i am pretty used to all those limitations i been doing this for years now

I had Live installed years ago i really liked those links but i could never really enjoy Live especially for all plugin errors.

It is the same with Sonar many plugins crash in Sonar that not crash in other DAW:s
And Sonar also have a plugin limit so if you have Waves and some other big bundles installed you get this mess "More plug-in's are available on your system than can fit on this menu"

So you must create a new plugin menu with the plugin manager which b.t.w is very similar to what you do with links in Live you can also have doubles and move those folders around the hierarchy but that takes time..

Anyway with most installers you can point to a specific dir where you want to install the plugin so i usually create a folder for the plugin to be installed in before i start the installer so it is really no big deal instead of just hit next next next and ok in the installer.

The only annoying thing for me is when the installer creates subfolders but in most cases you could just move the files and delete the subfolders and it still works

I had a ton of the Tone2 stuff crash Studio One on first launch. A few plugs made it but the AkustiX Enhancer, FilterBank didn't and a few other things such as Gladiator and R2R's version of FireBird 2. Anyone have any idea about this? I put the license files along with the dlls so I can't imagine what kind of shit is going on especially when I blocked my network beforehand.

I have had all of them working when I was using 32bit (Studio1), including saurus. I have not tried them with 64bit yet. You need to make sure you DAW does not have access to internet, the vsti's will call home when starting them. And remember to keep each vsti in a separate folder (along with its keyfile) and a copy of the key file inside another folder in each vsti folder, in case they get removed. Saurus I believe is using a timebomb to remove the key file automatically, so having a copy ready overcomes that little annoyance.
