Is Splice worth it?

Discussion in 'Software' started by Vincent Price, Feb 15, 2024.

  1. Hello

I am looking to try out Splice, but wondered, is it worth it.

Also they say you can download the sounds, but when I am on the website on the trial, I can't download sounds without a subscription

Do I have to have software installed to download the sounds or can I just download them off the website?

i think not even the samples packs and preset packs are even worth it. the market is so saturated with that stuff and i mean why add more material to it ...

if you can afford 20 bucks a month sure , i tried it once and was amazed by the quality of the hyperpop samplepacks but it ain't worth it to me becouse it's too expensive for me but if i was rich or had cash to blow i would be permanently subscribed to splice

I tried the free trial a while back.

There's a lot of stuff there for sure, but it wasn't for me. Do I want to browse thousands upon thousands kicks & snares to find the perfect one for my electro track? Fuck no, I got plenty already and can craft my own. And melody loops? It's not like you get multisampled instruments, so you need some heavy duty manipulation to play something to your tune I think.

What it could be good for is if you're composing for video and you need quick backing because the director/editor wants something else or new, and it would be fast to just get a quick funk drum/bass guitar pattern going or something. Or a quick tech-house drumloop.

But am I gonna pay a subsciption for that? Nah man, better options out there available as a one time bundle purchase.

hell no, I wouldn't use it. The risk of someone using the same sample is part of it., no matter who paid for it. And it will make you alter anything until unrecognizable anyway. The "if I was rich" sort of thinking would make me want to use Splice even less. You'd be able to buy hardware, hire a vocalist when you need one, and buy samples from any of the more traditional sources like East West, Big Fish, Loopmasters, or whatever of those "Labels" fit your musical purposes. They at least have some forms of quality control. Anything good from Splice gets leaked anyway. By getting a subscription, you are paying to check out all the stuff that wasn't even good enough for someone to leak. It's like going to a garbage dump with a metal detector and a shovel.

At first, it's worth it for a little while. Try it for a bit. Use up all your credits on presets and samples. Decide if it is worth it to keep. You will eventually find better things to spend your money on.
