all plugins/ synths/effects have their own unique features. its up to the user to make good use of it. it's like asking which DAW is the best....

Serum is just a current industry standard synth and a must have for electronic music production.
It's certainly more versatile than stock Synthesizers, but it doesnt mean you HAVE to have it in order to produce the music that you want to produce.

    serum is a good synth.
so are most of the stock synths in FL. Harmor is an amazing synth on its own.
if you want to make music you will use what you have.
for me it's also economics. I can't afford serum so i have to use what i have until one day, perhaps, i could get it.
There are so many great synths around though, i am glad sometimes to be limited. : )

Serum has wavetable morphing and phase distortion modes. The closest thing to it in FL is Harmor (you can load an image or wave file and scan it). It is not a totally fair comparison. But the other synths in FL can do stuff that Serum can't...
    Apples and oranges.

long story short, it depends on your use case. Serum is a great synth cause its user interface is extremely intuitive, and it's feature rich. It's hands down better than any stock synth, but you won't necessarily notice its advantages if you aren't using a lot of its features that stock synths don't have like say, its FX integration and modulation capabilities.

Its best you try Serum out so you can see if its worth it for your use case. I remember there being a trial/demo for Serum, if I'm not wrong.

Lemme start by saying anything you like is good. FL or not doesn't make a difference. If you 're afraid that you 'll pay for something you already have then don't be, FL doesn't have something as feature rich as Serum. Perhaps if you combine 2-3 FL synths together then you may get close.
Serum is a great synth because it can have an instant appeal to both beginners and seasoned musicians. With that said, its many merits are explored better when you have a deep understanding of synthesis and programming synthesizers. Even better when you understand binary programming lol. Serum's creator is a known genious in the industry, he was responsible for the first truly realistic drums vsti ever, Fxpansion's BFD. He was (still is maybe?) also Trent Reznor's engineer and synth programmer. And of course Serum can create all kinds of wobbles and general weirdness you'd expect from a top synth that also has wavetable synthesis, as much as traditional and classic synth sounds, subs and basses, leads, pads, fx, the whole lot.
    Cheers :)

Serum is also really good if you like presets because there is a sheet ton of preset packs available for it for all kinds of genres.

Better for what? What's "better" always depends on what kind of music you want to make. Serum definitely isn't suitable for everything.
