A majority of people know about all the latest Blockbuster movies when they are released and even see the trailers - Avatar, Wakanda, John Wick, Black Adam etc etc and the serious acting and dramatic ones..... and all the IMAX ones..
They should check out which DAW is used in nearly every major film house for the editing and final film release audio mix that goes to the movie theatres.
When Universal, Disney, 20th Century Fox and the rest all say they have dumped PT as their primary film industry audio editing standard, then yes, PT will likely be in trouble.

How about this, once you know ANY DAW well, you relize that from creating a mix session to completion, you work two or three times faster than any other than in the market that you DON"T know. Indeed, YOU have been using Reaper since 2009, accordingly, you MUST know it upside down. You better!
Some of you are confusing your favorite DAW with the DAW that no matter which major studio you walk into someone will be familiar with. My favorite DAW is Renoise. Yet, I knew that I needed to continue to be familiar with Pro Tools because seriously, back in 2002 who was using Renoise? I said it once, and will say it again: If Reaper is the best DAW ever created how come that after 16 years, and affordability it has not been able to surpass Pro Tools as the DAW of choice? Because the system integration of Pro Tools regardless of how fucked up Avid is, it is second to none. No other DAW developer comes even closer.

    FOOD FOR THOUGHT # 3
Pro Tools is the English language of the DAWs. Lots of people hate the British, and the Americans but no matter where in the world you travel to, if you speak English you will be able to communicate with the natives because someone , there will know English. The same with Pro Tools. As much as some people hate it, if you have a project in Pro Tools it does not matter where in the world you book a major recording studio, there will be someone familiar with Pro Tools. Indeed, although nobody has touched upon on it, we cant overlook the Pro Tools Session Guidelines for Music Production. They can greatly improve the process of transferring sessions between operators.
Read it! That is what pros expect when you show up with a project.

Pretty much every major movie by every film studio uses post-production with audio on PT, so it means jackshit what any of us like. :hahaha:

(When they stopped being proprietary and realized they were not the only decent manufacturer of good hardware and were cutting off their nose to spite their face, as well as cutting a lot of potential profits)..... maybe one day, they might make aax more accessible to other DAW's - but I will not hold my breath. :)

I think a new DAW will emerge . . . a non-DAW, DAW that takes the industry by storm . . . something different, intuitive, yet powerful.

In 10 y lots big countries will cease to exist. There'll be a new continent (or one less) aso.

Pro Tools will be no more in couple of y.. I have inside info!

(BIG) Hint: it will be replaced with something based on (what we now call) A.I. and It'll be engineered in China

Cant say more sry, other than Happy New Year folks!

thats pretty much what i think.
PT is still used widely in the bigger companies to create audio related things.

It might had lost ground in smaller+ midrange studios. thats why they offered this smaller PT version for free.

i installed PT and it simply hung for hours on installing avids shitty ethernet driver. :deep_facepalm:
Add PTs various bugs and ilok on top of it and you have the most shittest piece of software. :knock::suicide:

It is easy for any of us to find the worst possible things in anything. I see every DAW as having something to offer, Obviously, we will all have our preferred workflow DAW and that is exactly how it should be. I cannot argue with a lot of what you have said.
Protection (e.g. iLok) in a world that is full of a cavalcade of young outside-the-square hackers is almost a moot point. The tougher they make the protection, the more determined hackers are to break through it.

Personally, and only for me, I feel if they spent the hours they used on protection into R&D and creating something that will truly make the audio environment better, all of the DAW and plugin companies would be better off and probably sell more. A hacker is going to hack as sure as a fish is going to swim. In the scenario of groups like R2R, if you're lucky, they fix the shitty parts of some apps. For me, I find their MIDI connectivity the shittiest part of all. You can get around the rest, even the ethernet, and bypass a lot of it but the MIDI connectivity is inherent. I doubt I have seen any DAW that can drop its external MIDI connectivity that consistently like PT can.

As for losing ground in mid-range studios you are right and they have also begun to lose ground in a few audio-only major ones too. Their latest subscription model without extra support to validate the hike has pissed a lot of people off.

Are you sure it is not your system? Are you running a 100% system? I hav PT in my system running as smooth as every other DAW I have installed. To be clear, I have PT, Cubase, Studio One, Live 11, Renoise, and FL Studio. All legit licenses. All these DAWs have installed and run without issues on Windows 10 fully up to date. I have not even mess around with the Windows OS in this built. Every single plugin is legit.
I read of too many problems with DAWs, and plugins and wonder if it is a result of users running non "legit" plugins, and messing with the OS.

I will play devil's advocate here. 15 years ago all the protection crap took a toll on the system resources but with today's CPUs and RAM advances you don't even notice it. I used to worry too much about modifying Windows up until last year. I decided to run an unmodified Windows 10 with just Cortana, Telemetry, and Windows Defender off. As I explained above to @ArticStorm, no issues at all. iLock is doing its thing, and you cant' even notice it. Indeed, even iLock and its software have improved tremendously. In sum, we hear "stories" and opinions from members but how many are really using on a daily basis, if at all, those DAWs, plugins, and tools that they talk shit about?

The only time I even let my iLok cloud application connect to the internet is to get new free content and updates from UVI. Otherwise it is blocked by my firewall. And my applications like Falcon never stop working or being authorized without having to go "online".

There are much better reasons for "try before buy" than this.

I think you have it in a nutshell. For all the flaws people complain about with Windows, the less you modify t, the better it runs. I run Win 11 almost identically. I have defender completely disabled as the only difference and Windows Updates off with 'Stop Updates' where I can turn it on if I want something necessary .

I settled for Studio One a long time ago. Right now I am legit with €15 monthly with one login verification per month only. For the small studio owner this is OK. Perhaps if Avid lowered their price and had no iLok or cloud protection I would try the latest Pro Tools for €15 a month and see how it goes, end of story. Mind you I used PT 9 back in early days with Mac OS. Then it was Logic all the way till Studio One showed up. For the one man band semi pro who does his own recordings I find it is the fastest DAW. I tried hard to like Cubase but it got in the way with all sort of “hiccups”. Reaper for me is a joke which I tried hard to understand, but no luck! YMMV
