Hey guys! :) lately I'm wondering whether I should make my tracks 'easier' with less instruments and give more space to the sounds. As I just started less than a year ago producing music, I feel like I don't have yet the ear to get perfectly when there's the need for more sounds and when not. An help from you guys would be extremely appreciated :D do you think I should make the following track less dense?

    Thanks a lot guys!

    EDIT: here's the updated version

PS: the track is still unmastered and unmixed, is just a composition idea

I don't have a lot of listening hours dedicated to this genre, but it sounds good in my opinion. Everything seems to mesh pretty well.

I don't hear too many instruments, I think you have the right balance. The only issue I would mention is stretching the same melody line over 7 minutes makes the track repetative. Maybe add some variation to the lead to keep the listeners interest.

Thank you very much guys! The feedback is extremely appreciated :)

Thank you! That makes sense, I will :)

No worries! :) They're all samples coming from the Deep Premium Pack vol.2 from the PML guys with added some reverb and pitch modulation and with some work on the adsr envelope

Atm the bass and the piano are pretty low (in volume). Let's hear what happens if you raise them.
Maybe carve a gap in the pad in the center (m/s eq).
As for the piano, I'd change it's level is the different parts, maybe even with some (small) crescendi/decrescendi throughout the parts.

I thought I would give you my advice before reading anyone else's so to give you a completely unbiased approach.

Here is what I have so far.:--

    1) Take the volume of drums down somewhere between 4 to 6 DB (They are far too prominent at the moment)
    2) I would consider adding some form of swing to the melody whilst keeping the drums without so it goes past the beat and before (but only a very small amount to give it a chasing effect)
    3) Consider adding a bit of harmonic distortion to the bass to give it a little more prominence and bite.
    4) I would layer a few more instruments over the melodic part, not less!
    5) Consider maybe an arp for the melody too, just in a couple of places. This will give the listener more of a surprise as to what is coming next.
    6) I know you are just at the mixing stage, but In this instance I would add a glue compressor with a couple of DB to gel the mix and compensate for the lowering of drum levels.

All that aside, I think you have the makings of something very nice there. Well done.

Thank you for very valuable feedback! I'm always struggling with what should be the right volume for all the instruments in a song, so really appreciate :) with carving a gap in the pad in the center you mean applying a low cut in the mid with the eq?

Your feedback is amazing and extremely helpful! Thank you a ton! Absolutely appreciated :)

Cut or lower whatever frequencies are overlapping too much. You'll find them easily with an analyzer like Free Voxengo SPAN.

Pretty much agree with previous comments. I would also remind you of why it's important to add variation and interest after each break - you're always telling a story with music as well. It could be a simple question and answer (e.g. notes going up and then answered by notes going down), or it could be more complicated emotions and journeys. Tell the story that's in your head about this music. What are you feeling? Where is it going? Those breaks are very boring. You have a good idea and I'd love to hear how you develop it.

My problem is how to get more tracks. When doing sample/looped based stuff in Live for example, a few drum loops, handful of samples to play with and it sounds all filled up to me.
I mean, you can play one single sound in something like Omnisphere and that's the whole tune in and of itself!. lol.

Aside from tunes with vocals and exploded drum kit tracks, I'm hard pressed how anyone goes more than 8-10. :dunno:

As long, you're PC can handle the files there are not enough :bleh: jk

I think it’s totally ok in terms of instruments
And all other stuff like, a bit to long with same melodies, and unmastered is already said.

If you look at the big guys there are nearly 100 instrument on some tracks

The Fat Rat -Unity Projectfiles Stems and Ableton save.

In your song a bass and a subbass melody is needed
Maybe some more strings could be done additional (talking about acoustic ones not synth)
    a second top melody

But hey just my crazy ideas
Songs are like opinions everyone thinks he could or would do better

Make some riffs or effects like riser, atmos drones in the track and one or two percussion rythmen at middle from track.

Your track sounds very fine. Already hear it's has some mix done to it but doesn't feel overloaded at all.

    btw
    Skrillex - Fuji Opener

Integreted LUFS -4dB at the end... It has ZERO dynamic what's so ever, that's complete bullshit way of doing tracks. I really don't get why these practices still exist.
