Is it possible to iterate on audio file optimization without using DSP?

I would strongly recommend HDDs over SSDs, slower is better, 5400 rpm with fat32 file system and at least 64kb clusters sounds soo much better than that jittery, boxy, flat and lifeless sound of SSDs. Due to the rotational movement of the HDD platters and the constant stream of data, it's far more focused and detailed, with a wider sound stage.

As i said, it's impossible to argue, we are all over-educated, too smart or lazy people.

What over 99% of audiophiles do not understand, it's not about ears, it's about their imagination.

And if it's about "live audio output", you could easily play the original and the "optimized" file back and record the analog output. If the recorded result is different, there is some serious hardware problem with your system.

But as we all know, things like this will never happen, or the audiophile finds some explanation that the difference he can hear can not be recorded. Simply because even the best ADCs can't record all the details his ears can hear. And so on, threads like this will never end. And if the audiophile runs out of arguments, other people are stupid, ignorant or have no ears.

I just had a look at the website and this "audiophile" 2200 $ DAC pratyahara talked about. It's built around a standard class compliant USB 2.0 chip and a 30 year old TDA1387 DAC chip with a whopping 16 bit resolution, no joke! :woot:

You have to read only a few lines of the description about sound rendering quality and musicality or about electromagnetic pollution caused by PCs to know this is just plain bullshit of an "audiophile" DIY hobbyist.

And this is the guy who "invented" this magical piece of software?? This is soo much more hilarious than I imagined it could be.

2200 bucks DAC - this is my favourite part:

"delivered with a wooden support which it is advisable to pose on a sandwich granite + cork. (Granite and cork not supplied)"

I mean, if it was French winemaker, then I could justify all the rest

I thought I saw some real stupid shit posted on this forum last week with people not understanding how ADC/DAC's work and some absolute confusion on that magnified beyond nonsense...

But the premise of this post is even dumber.

    What is going on here?

The golden age of 44,1 kHz 16 bit CD (with green painted edge) audio back in the 90s, when DAC output was musical and round.

Everything here seems to be teeming with sobriety.
Listen to these two bit-identical files and say if you hear any difference. Of course, geeks will claim a priori, without listening, that the sound is identical since the files are bit-identical. Ende. They probably won't even want to download it. As Heraclitus said, "people sleep even when they are awake."

Placebo is a hell of a drug.

As is whatever else is being taken here and sold as snake oil.

Just for fun I actually downloaded your files and listened to them with my RME Babyface Pro FS and beyerdynamic DT880 Pro 250 Ohm, DT990 250 Ohm and Sennheiser HD 660S Headphones and IK MTM and JBL 305p mkII Speakers because I'm at home now. They sound absolutely the same. Tomorrow I may be able to listen on ATC SCM 150 in the studio if they are good enough for you.

For sure this is not the audiophile equipment I need. Once an audiophile told me all RME interfaces destroy the sound of clocking and source information because of the "too good" jitter correction. By the way, his listening room had terrible acoustics and very annoying room resonances, but he liked it.

In addition, the files have no stereo information at all, so all "sound stage" and "stereo image" things don't apply too.

You asked for a real world listening experience, this is my answer. Reading many of your posts in the last years, I thought it was often "way over the top", but somehow interesting. But now in my opinion you have completely disqualified yourself concerning any serious audio stuff. Audiophile religion, any non believers are wrong, facts don't care.

Edit: FLAC and RAR compression was also deemed by some audiophiles, how can you accept that??

Edit 2: I know that you don't care about other peoples subjective opinions or experiences that don't match yours. But I just want to answer your simple main question "Is it possible to iterate on audio file optimization without using DSP?" - "At least concerning this bullshit software, no." I had some free days and it was fun to follow this thread, but don't take it too seriously. Believe in what makes you happy.

    This smacks of a snake-oil carnival due to this;

"Optimization sensitivity is influenced by the electromagnetic environment surrounding the computer. For optimal results, it's advised to turn off any potentially interfering equipment nearby (such as cell phones or switch mode power supplies) and close unnecessary applications."...

So basically they are telling you to turn OFF your computer in order to "run the optimization". Since your 'puter has a switching power supply (pretty much everyone under the sun who has a computer has a switching supply) the entire exercise is moot since you have now entered into a catch-22 conundrum. The junilabs player thing is not the only player of this ilk. However this is the only one I have seen that can actually "sense" what is going on around it.

I would ask how this program is able to be "influenced by the electromagnetic environment surrounding it", but it's just too ludicrous a thought to entertain at this point...

To be perfectly honest here, the dev's suggested equipment upgrade choices that are supposed to allow you to "hear the difference in sound quality that this player is supposed to bring" are by themselves the real difference maker in better resultant sound quality. The player program being the least effective link in the chain.

As in quantum physics, scientists report
"At its core, the Observer Effect means that the simple act of observing a quantum property changes that property. It's as if the photon or electron somehow knows it's being watched and immediately stops what it was doing"
    ....Hmmm

This thread reminds me of a saying my grandma used to say every now and then: "Every day a scammer and a sucker go out in the streets. When they meet, they make a deal."

You totally failed. Did you remember to use your 24k gold plated oxygen-free audiophile cabling to properly invoke the crystal lattice of perfect sound??

the most funny thing about all this is that in fact, unlike for digital data in memory, proper magnetic shiedling is what you need for analog circuits to preserve a good SNR.

A € 2.200,- DAC has to make Ted Nugent sound like a sober & intelligent & decent human being. :))) (Whatever that may be ... but that is what I expect from "wonder toys": making wonders come true.)
