That has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read on here. Do you really believe that?

Nexus gets a lot of bashing on here, fair enough, horses for courses etc but saying something like that's just crazy.

He's actually right, and you know why? Because there was a drum expansion for Nexus where if you pressed a key, a whole hi-hat loop or whatever was triggered so you basically
    didn't needed to sequence anything.

he's obviously exaggerating a little bit, but nexus is pretty basic and limiting compared to some of the other wonderful synths out there :break:
there is hardly any flexibility within nexus too, and the sounds you get are pretty restricted. a real synth should have oscillators
there are still some great sounds in there forsure, but i personally prefer using other real synths like massive spire reaktor. no shame in using it though lol... the piano sounds pretty decent too along with a few pads...would be nice if the good pads didnt have heavy phasers built in that you cant adjust. well, thats nexus for ya. :P
maybe i just dont like it cuz it crashes ableton.... to each there own :mates:

I don't doubt that, but that has absolutely nothing to do with why it became so popular.

Cause it offer out of the box, ok not with pushing a button but browsing a preset list, turning 2 knobs and pushing 2 buttons,
ready made sounds for mainstream EDM. So for me its pretty much that the reason why its so popular.
(uh, and people that don't want to learn synthesis too) :bleh:

Yea, also imagine all those famous DJs/Producers who use Nexus, when your booking schedule is overwhelming do you really have time for "scratch" synthesis anymore? C'mon...
    Layering? = Yes! *yes*
Sounds from scratch? = No! *no*

I hear what people are saying but... lots of people just get a new synth and use the presets. Or buy new preset packs or just follow youtube tutorials that say "click this... click that... set to 11.5... etc etc".

The elitism of "I create my sounds from scratch" or "samples are for noobs" coming from people that never produce a track is just silly. If Nexus makes things so easy then why don't we have loads of hits from these people?
I'm pretty sure all the people that downloaded the cracked version are still in their bedrooms.

I'm sure the main allure of Nexus is because it's not freely available on torrents. If it was or it was getting chucked out at $49 people wouldn't by gagging for it as much.

I think hyem77 sums things up pretty well. Lets face it, don't matter what synth you use, there is a boat load of preset packs available, and people make a living out creating them as well as uploading them because that is what people want.

Matt I can't disagree with anything you've just said it's pretty spot on, I only highlighted and replied to what I quoted from you because, well to be fair that statement was a little bit of an exaggeration to say the least.

It's not worth the 3000, not by a mile, even the basic unit and a few expansions alone are over priced.

However Nexus is my thing. But so is sylenth1, massive and zebra. So is my virus. Just because I use nexus that doesn't mean I can't program a synth from scratch. Granted I'm no expert sound designer but I can get close to most sounds I try (eventually). Out of them synths zebra is probably what I use the most, I love it and love nothing better than messing about with it. For me its a good all rounder and can really punch through a mix. Above, evo mentioned layering. For myself and others I know, this is how its used. Its layered along with other synths to give you a big sound (depending what your after of course). It's never been a tool for me where you can pick a preset and then it just magically fits into the mix. I get the impression a lot of people really do think that, and if thats the case with it then I'm clearly going wrong somewhere with this so called simple tool.

At the end of the day, its a rompler, and it does what it says on the tin. Like I said in my first post, horses for courses :mates:

Well, i personally use Nexus when i want to quickly jam a piano which sounds instantly "mixed" and wet.
When i wanna practice keys quickly, PN Nexus GrandPiano is my go-to  but nothing special.
I don't say it's bad, also Smartlad, you spotted right when i mentioned layering, because the only way i would use Nexus in one of my productions, would be by layering. I can just make a synth-lead from scratch with Spire then add an extra layer of Nexus's synths to make the lead even fatter. I don't find any other uses though. For EDM scene, Nexus and Sylenth1/Spire is pretty much all you need.(excepting drums and other stuff).

I said in context of presets and same approach of using it,Spire cost less and presets cost less,if someone is using presets exclusively,Spire will save him tons of money, you all heard Spire, right, tell me,what more one potential Nexus oriented user or beginner can ask for in it,if he ever decide to try to make a sound,he can,if not, there are so many good presets and so many banks, all flavors for everyone and they sound great right there, same philosophy as Nexus but more possibilities, but up to date sounds and way cheaper, find a sound and use it immediately thing,Spire offers way more in Nexus own game plus you can go beyond that and save up so much money,no brainier people,I do not hate or I am elitist sound designer, for the same thing, that is using something immediately that sound good and fits,Spire is better deal than Nexus today.

I think Nexus is the same as everything - it is not tool that matters, it is how you use it. Yes the best premium tools are better than the cheap ones but with skill a cheap tool can do a decent job. Love him or hate him Avicii used to use Nexus a lot and look at the success he had... Just saying :winker::winker::winker:
