I thought we want to buy an electric car because we care so much about health and climate, or is it because we love to make them trillions on their new business ventures as well?

It's a boondoggle. And I own one! And I love it!! As I alluded, it's a Spark, 2015, got it used for around 6K. It gets a magnificent 75 miles or so per charge in warm weather and maybe 55 in the cold. I will never change its oil. Or air filters. Or fuel pump. I have a 220v charger that plugs into the dryer socket but I never use it; it charges overnight on 110 from the wall. It's a legit hot hatch and a freakin HOOT to drive. It's a kickass golf cart to go to work and the store as a 2nd car.

    BUT THAT'S IT.

It could never, ever be an only vehicle for a family. When the battery degrades beyond usability might as well chuck the entire car into a landfill. I'm lucky and I live in an area with nuclear power so power rates are still reasonably low but that's changing. And I pay a special tax on it because I'm getting around the gas taxes so I'm screwed there. There are not going to be electric semi-trucks or airplanes in our lifetime if ever. The only way you are ever truly going to move things around the country or the world is with fossil fuels*. Batteries are expensive and ugly to make and mine materials for. The notion of everybody driving an electric vehicle is not only insanity, it willfully spits in the face of reality. They are a niche, a very small niche and will be for a while. I love mine but it's not for everybody. Or even most.

*until they invent Mr. Fusion. Or they make hydrogen use realistic.

electric cars are more dangerous than petrol, Lithium is extremely toxic and miners are dying from exposure daily, you know how criminally irresponsible companies behave when disposing of hazardous wastes, learn from past how they have poisoned and polluted the planet. the cleaner alternatives are natural gas, bio-fuels, and plant based etc., there are quite a few other viable alternatives but the elitist and government bastards don't want that because they won't have as much control over the pricing. When you have extreme summer heat or winter cold and have power failures because of power grid overloads from heating and/or cooling and the rxternal conditions, what do you thing will happen when everyone's cars are also plugged in, an even larger overload, more blown circuits, transformers, melted powerlines, fires etc. A major catastrophe in the making. Only a moron would believe electric is better, if you lose power at home and require a generator what does that run on, gas or diesel. time to wake up and use your brains for something more than sitting on them.

10 reasons why we plant trees

    1. trees produce oxygen.
    2. trees absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.
    3. trees protect against erosion and flooding.
    4. trees provide food, habitat and shelter.
    5. trees create jobs and income.
    6. trees stop desertification.
    7. trees cool the earth and create microclimates.
    8. trees filter dust and particles from the air.
    9. trees regulate precipitation.
    10. trees are a renewable source of wood.

    - In just one day, Ecuadorians planted 647,250 trees of 200 different species. The Minister of Environment, Lorena Tapia, said that nearly 45,000 people planted the trees on more than 2,000 hectares of land.

    - The Chinese have planted more than 60 billion trees around the Gobi Desert since 1978.

Ebikes are very economical if you have the infrastructure, I would urge everyone to try riding one, they're great.

Here in Spain the electricity price is skyrocketing since months, even more now with the war. So natural gas was the first.
This is also directly and indirectly dragging petrol up. I guess in other countries is the opposite just reading the topic title.

PS. I say directly because I think some electric power plants still use petrol instead of natural gas

The most important factors currently leading to an oil shortage and, as a result, to a price increase are

    1. Russia's war against Ukraine
The oil price is very sensitive to geopolitical crises and wars in oil-producing countries. In the event of war and unrest, oil production sites could be shut down as a precaution or even attacked and damaged. But a deliberate shortage as a means of exerting pressure on sanctions is also possible.

Putin's war against Ukraine particularly affects us Germans: Russia is our largest oil supplier. In 2021, Germany imported around a third of its total oil requirements from Russia alone. Russia's war of aggression has already caused prices to jump to over one euro per liter of heating oil. Should Russia respond to NATO sanctions by halting deliveries, the price is likely to rise even further.
Conversely, the oil price would probably also rise further if the West were to stop or restrict oil imports from Russia on its own initiative. On March 8, the U.S. announced an import ban on Russian oil, although it is not yet clear when it will take effect. The UK said it would stop importing oil from Russia by the end of this year. This increases the pressure on the EU to take a stand.

    2. restrained oil production by OPEC and other countries
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC for short, is an oil cartel with currently 13 member states. OPEC stands for Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. Five of the countries are among the ten largest oil-producing states in the world: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait, Venezuela and the United Arab Emirates. Increasingly, OPEC is also cooperating with non-OPEC countries such as Russia and Kazakhstan and is then often called OPEC+.

The aim of the cartel is to either push down, raise or stabilize the price of crude oil by means of agreements. To achieve this, OPEC sets so-called production quotas, i.e. how much oil each country may or should produce. If less oil is produced and exported, the price on the stock market rises.

At the beginning of the Corona pandemic, OPEC+ lowered production quotas in order to stabilize the collapsed oil prices. This is because at the beginning of the pandemic, people flew less frequently and drove fewer cars, which meant that oil demand had collapsed in the meantime.

Despite the current high oil prices, member states want to raise oil production only slightly for fear of another Corona wave. What continues to mean high heating oil, gasoline and diesel prices for us means higher revenues for the OPEC+ countries. The countries therefore have no good reason to increase production at the moment.

    3. demand for crude oil increases
After months of Corona restrictions, countries around the world are loosening their measures. Traveling is more possible and maybe you drive your car to the office more often again. This increases the demand for kerosene, gasoline and diesel - and therefore also the price of oil. In addition to heating oil, the increased demand for fuels is also driving up the price of crude oil. Currently, you have to pay over 2 euros per liter for both gasoline and diesel at times (as of 07.03.2022). By the way, we have written down what you can do to refuel more cheaply in our guide to refueling with E10.

For electric, you pay the difference upfront, in aquisition price, rather than gas price. Just buy a diesel or anything with small gasoline engine and you are ready to go for 5+ years to come.

You forgot willfully kneecaping your own country's oil production starting on your 1st day in office because you have an agenda that relies on destroying the economy.

A person (with extensive experience in electricity, electromechanics, electronics and automation and computer science) has developed a charging system for electric vehicles (with test bench) which works 100% and proceeds to long hours of test (by simulation) and ended up being sure of his invention.
You only charge your vehicle once since it has been in your possession, the rest will be done by itself afterwards by fairly advanced technical means. You will never run out of battery, you will be able to drive for thousands of kilometers without any charging failure, finished charging; No need ...

Once finished, he contacts 3 major manufacturers of electric cars (several times) to (propose) share his project and his realization or invention for sale of course. He even contacted Renault in Algeria... No response for several years.

    Why ?

    In my opinion of course...

1 They just didn't believe it. (out of pride and arrogance)

2 He will never accept that such an invention made by an African sees the light of day. (out of pride and arrogance)

3 (the most probable I think) It would not be interesting for this industry that this invention is exploited.

That's all I could find for answers...

There's a thing called the Laws of Thermodynamics, and they say (in part, and paraphrasing) there's no free lunch. Energy must come from somewhere. Batteries will not charge on unicorn farts or wishful thinking. If the battery stays charged the power comes from somewhere. Where in this interesting scenario is that somewhere?
