Is it a "rerelease" if you change a small section of a song?

Also what if the old song was removed from music distributions sites..is it still a rerelease?

    Thanks

I think you can release it as "Song Name (Re-Edit)" or "Song Name (Original Mix)" or "Song Name (Album Version)" or "Song Name (Version 2)" or "Song Name (Alternative Version)".
I only share what I saw while listening to music. People do this when they changed something. You can name it different but also you can just ignore it and release under same name. Your artistic choice I think.

Do whatever you want and name it whatever. As long as you don't make millions of money from them and artists don't complain, there is no problem. Many of the things we do are illegal, but prosecution is not done unless someone sues us for our works and takes the issue to court. At that time, if we are legally proven to be criminals, we will be in trouble from that point on.

releases only really matter if you're paying people for marketing or you have rabid fans, otherwise call it whatever you want

A re-release of a record generally applies to something that was put out, then went out of print before any new copies were made. If the tracks are changed, then it is not a re-release. The re-release may have different artwork, packaging, but it's still the same record. Sometimes people would call it a re-press.

If a small change is made to a song, it will often be called an edit. Remixes are more of a variation, but it used to indicate that only the original audio parts were used to create it. Now, that seems to have gone out the window and people use new parts if they want.

The reason I mention vinyl records is because these terms become almost meaningless if a product is not manufactured. And commonly, the only people who care about this are collectors; because it can impact the resale value of an item.
