Is EQ Matching a guitar tone "cheating"?

By using the guitarist you want to match as a reference file - loads of plugins Mastering the Mix, Ozone tonal balance, Fab Filter Q3., ones that do Spectral EQ mapping..etc etc... many on the sister site.

A lot of people here like Whitesea Studio and Mixbus TV - They review referencing plugins. You'll probably have to look through a few to find what you want on youtube. They're both technically very adept in knowledge. do not mix them up with room referencing though.
As I said a lot of people here like them but not everyone.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.”

Most people leave out that last bit when quoting The Wilde One. I guess it makes one feel better about oneself to not be able to be original as one can be and ride on someone else's coattails. I guess though that we all do it at some point when beginning our artistic journey, though it might be best to don blinders at some point to the past and focus on the present moment lest it becomes a crutch to future creativity.

Lots of useful replies here, seems its like 80% says its not cheating, and the other 20% says its cheating... so far i agree with you all... I would love to get a guitar tone i am super happy with by my own work, but on the other hand i could get a guitar tone i love by EQ Matching.
The thing its that the ideal world would be to have a REAL cabinet/amp of my own, but that is impossible for me now.

The most difficult thing is to find a part of a song when only the guitar is sounding. And without reverb/delay.
Then you use one of the plugins BassDude mentioned. For me MeldaProduction MFreeFormEq (and some others from Melda) is the best and easiest by a long shot. Including exporting the result to a IR-like wav file.

PS. Holy shit, I just saw in "similar threads" that I myself did a lame tutorial about guitar EQ matching years ago. Oh boy was I drunk..
A shame the video got striked. And it's outdated. But still if you guys wanna laugh at me take a look
