I don't know so much about music theory and guitar. So, this question may sound stupid.

I just tried Ample Sound riffer and found it is much harder to create new riff than creating it on DAW. The only two advantages I found were the presets and the dice. Does anybody make riff on riffer? If yes, what is the advantage?

Second question is what difference is between riffer and strum? It sounds similar and I don't know what exactly different is.

[Edited: talking about ASound's riffer and strummer] Though is not an absolute rule, strums are chord progressions (arpeggiated in many cases) and riffs one note progressions, e.g. bass lines.

I have no experience with the riffer though. I do have heard more people saying it's not very useful.

Just to add to your correctness. "As an absolute rule", at least in language, the word 'riff' means a melodic phrase; a pattern of single notes, often used repeatedly; eg bass lines. as you correctly say. Or palm-muted electric guitar patterns.
Whereas 'strum' means to sweep up or down across multiple strings.
These are dictionary definitions, to which Ample Sound has adhered to! lol

@Niruvana Messing with Strummer for AGG and the Riffer for ABP etc helped me get acquainted with all the articulations.
I play in most of my parts and rarely start by editing in the piano-roll as you do, but always have to go in and move or add stuff.
If you're quick in the piano-roll, as it sounds like you are, then there is no immediate advantage to using Riffer or Strummer.
But you could add your own .mid files to it to use as starting points, if that's a timesaver.

Good for auditioning parts in key with a track that's already happening, is mostly when I've used Strummer or Riffer.

You're right. What I meant is in Ample Sound riffer and strummer you can make both single notes and chords.

I specified it in my original comment, thanks for the input.

Nope...riffs are not just single notes.
    Single notes, intervals, chords.
    Not just melodic...more often rhythmic.

Of course, a 'riff' may and can have other articulations in it! haha. This should be obvious.
But the dictionary definitions are correct, never the less.
