The question of whether AI will make better music than humans is subjective and depends on individual preferences and opinions. AI has shown impressive capabilities in generating music, composing melodies, and even mimicking various musical styles. However, the ability to create "better" music involves elements of creativity, emotion, and personal expression, which are aspects often associated with human musicians.

AI can analyze vast amounts of musical data, learn patterns, and generate new compositions based on that knowledge. It can be a valuable tool for musicians and composers, providing inspiration, aiding in the creative process, or even generating background music for various purposes. Some AI-generated music has received positive feedback, and there are instances where people appreciate the novel and unique compositions produced by AI.

On the other hand, music is deeply connected to human emotions, cultural contexts, and personal experiences. Many argue that the essence of music lies in the human ability to convey emotions, tell stories, and connect with listeners on a profound level. While AI can replicate certain aspects of musical composition, it may struggle to capture the depth of human emotions and the rich cultural and historical influences that shape musical expression.

In summary, AI has the potential to create interesting and enjoyable music, but whether it can surpass or replace the emotional and creative depth of human-made music remains a topic of ongoing debate and exploration. It's also worth noting that AI and human musicians can collaborate, with AI assisting and enhancing the creative process rather than replacing it entirely.

Here's a base rule when it comes to A.I.

Anything that a human can do, A.I. can also do, but better, faster, and more efficiently.

Have you seen the kind of art that Midjourney is capable of creating? Or, the kind of text that ChatGPT is capable of generating? Well, that kind of disruptive capability is coming to music, and EVERYTHING else. The idea that humans will be able to compete with A.I. is laughable. Specifically, with regards to music, the idea that A.I. will just be a "tool" to "enchance", "unlock", or "augment" creativity is ludicrous. It will be used as a tool alright, a tool to replace human musicians, just like they're doing already with regard to art jobs and writing jobs.

It doesn't really matter. I bet you found two productions that are (almost) "equally good" and wondered why one has 78 million views and the other 789 views..

"Music" is just a product and as such worthless.. until someone decides it's worthy and force-feeds it to the masses. Also usually there has to be some image behind it etc ..and this is older than pop

If this decision making gets in the hands of AI, than thats another story..

I've heard tell that those presiding in the high tower wish the human population be whittled down to 500 million. Maybe they'll keep a few musicians around in their perfect and consumate curation. After all, AI isn't perfect!

Your inital post (the one generated by *him*) instantly appeared to me as weird in a way that it seemed you would rather recite something vs how people usually speak here, which would be - more loose and casual and more from a personal view.

But that does not mean ChatGPT did a bad job. It just sounds more like an essay which could even be written by a person, in a different context - rather than a personal opinion spoken by a member.

AI is probably going to make better music than humans in the future.
Look at Google's new AI model Gemini. It looks more powerful than OpenAI's ChatGPT

AI is going to make music the likes of which we've never heard before because it isn't restricted by human expression. Some of it will be great, maybe most of it we won't relate to. But then it will figure out how to make it relatable (that might take a while though, maybe 30 seconds).

Yeah. Lots of tiny details that don't fall into a bigger picture (aka factual mistakes), and absolute lack of intentionality. An inspired third-grader would make a more compelling text *and* a more compelling painting.
I see it everywhere, and I can tell if it's done by AI or by a human.
Simple test. Can AI be a compelling interlocutor to you? Can it substitute for a human in this regard? Art is a dialogue, not a media content.

A.I. will be able to churn out virtual "artists", each of which can be tailor made to fit the specific desires of the consumer.

A.I was invented by humans. Even CharGPT was programmed by humans. NONE of it yet gives the right results for everyone. If it ever does, that possibility of taking over potentially becomes more of a reality.
Musically speaking, if the topic speaks of pure composing as classical music perfection level and EDM - it is almost doing that now with much of it.
Improvised music in all styles/genres, any music that is composed with the reliance on human interaction, no A.I will EVER be able to reproduce. That's like saying it can solve the Chaos Theory of Mathematics - same thing - too many random factors, weather, emotions, what happened that day, tiredness...etc....etc... Humans may repeat the same thing as a creature of habit daily, but they will always do something idiosyncratic that no A.I can possibly guess, even if a billion idiosyncrasies' were programmed into it.

A.I.is the ChatGPT of music. If it is programmed to be directed by a human it is useful. Unlike accounting machines that only require number outputs, if it is programmed to replace humans, it will be perfect but soulless and lifeless both in output, musical dynamics and spontaneity. It becomes 100% predictable which is boring.

P.S. - How many "Humanize" buttons in a DAW make a drum pattern or line sound more human when it has been programmed and quantized? If anyone wants it to be human, play it in manually and do not quantize it. Even an A.I analyzing every possible human error, supplying 'error' options won't do it either. Attempting to supply it with idiosyncratic behavior would improve the odds, but still, never do it. It would have to think and feel like a human being.

I agree and the thought of this made me really depressed for a while. But then I realized live music will always be in major demand and that's one thing AI can never take away from us. So all is not hopeless.

Even when AI does surpass human capabilities I don't think it will completely take over the music industry. It will just become it's own genre. There are millions of people that won't feel any kind of connection to something a machine created, myself and most of my friends included.

Kind of went off on a tangent there but I know the average artist dreads the thought of losing all to AI, I just don't think we have reason to worry.

You've made one of the most common mistakes that people make when trying to kneecap the significance of an emerging technology. You assumed that just because the technology is in an error prone state right now, that it will always be the case. In other words, do you honestly believe these silly little mistakes that ChatGPT makes now, will be made 2 years from now? How about 5 years, 10 years.

    You're missing the point completely.
I will reiterate. Art is a dialogue. You're looking at music as a content. A media product that has supply and demand.
This sphere of "music" is already fucked - there are more tracks being uploaded each day than babies being born each month. We won't notice the difference, cause it's already an incomprehensible amount of data.
Dialogue will always be left to those who can maintain it. Whenever AI will get truly sapient and be able to meaningfully interact with the world, it's gonna produce its own art. So far only people who don't care about music, writing or painting, are concerned. For others things didn't change cause it never was about the aspects that AI is better at.
You said AI is better than human at everything. AI is not better than human at being human. And when it will get there - it's only for our good honestly, cause we suck at it ourselves and need help.
Unless you're a hack who makes music for money I don't see any reason to worry.
