    Hello everybody!
We made a full band cover of Iron Maiden's ''Sea Of Madness'' off the album ''Somewhere in Time''
This was a fun one to do! Somewhere In Time is my favorite Maiden album!

Would love to hear from you opinions about the mix specially.

Love it, well done! I initially thought the mix sounded fantastic except for lacking low end but I have a cold, turns out everything sounds like that :dunno: so it's probably fine.

It's an excellent cover but... When I hear a note-for-note cover that's very well done by a full band I always think it's a waste of time and especially a waste of talent. The window of opportunity for a band is very narrow and when you're firing on all cylinders (as you clearly are) you need to put 100% of effort into your own music. It will all be gone before you know it. Unless of course you only care about playing covers, in which case excellent work!

Depends. Some people just enoy doing covers and some people are not capable of writing songs.

    Nice cover !

About the mix, i feel it needs more dynamic "glue".
Globally, it is well balanced by itself.

A little more guitar low end ?
The solo at the end is too loud and too panned right  ( a detail...)

May be a good mastering over it could make it shine more.
I really enjoyed listening the whole track :mates:

I was hoping somebody would say this. You're absolutely right and I know this from experience. The solution is that the world is full of songwriters who aren't in bands, who are actually looking for musicians to record their music. I think a lot of bands are too proud to work with songwriters, they see it as a failure but in reality we all have our strengths and weaknesses and a band is a group effort. Not all songwriters are musicians, there are also many lyricists. Iron Maiden were lucky to have a bass player who can write songs. Had they not maybe they would have faded into obscurity for want of a songwriter. In the era of the internet it's very easy to connect with people who can write songs and lyrics.

Hi, I am the vocalist in that cover. Ironically, I kinda think like you. But nowadays is very difficult. There are many very good bands making their own music that don't get the recognition they deserve. And some of them are so good that I am sure they would if they were in the 80s.
Most people seem to be interested in nostalgia only. And what annoys me the most about covers, is that always someone will come and complain ''oh you don't sound like Bruce'' or ''Dave Mustaine'' etc When I was actually not even trying, and actually singing in my own style.
But yes the covers we do are faithful to the original though, we don't change too much in terms of melodies and notes. People seem to be mostly interested in listening to perfect copies anyway.
And I have lots of demos of my own songs. Hope to release someday.. but like I said... damn when was the last time we saw big rock stars? I can't think of anything really big since Guns n Roses.
People are just not impressed with anything nowadays, probably because everything became so instantaneous and people don't value new music as before. Could go a lot deeper with that... but I guess you get what I mean.

Maybe! I am mixing only with headphones haha. I am sure if I had speakers with me, I would probably see something else to improve too.
Shawn, the guitar player, also made his version of the mix too. Totally different mix.

Oh man, it's complicated. Cause there are a few people involved in this. Not only me.

    Great album. Great track.
You do sound a bit more Mustaine in this track.

I often say to people that Guns 'n' Roses were the last great rock band and I challenge them to suggest another that came along after them. That whole ethos has gone now. Although Spinal Tap are still active*...

*I think they have to do something new at least once every five years in order to hold onto their copyright or something, this after a court battle. Looking forward to the new movie...

    I sent you a PM.

I'd like to have at least guitar DIs. I love searching for tones.

I like the low end. It have enough. If you have subwofer you'll notice.
    The first version sounded better.

    Insta DIO mojo!
All-in-all well done, I found that the whole track lacks low end and the end solo is a little too much.

    Keep rockin

Thanks for watching and observations Xft! Good catch, I agree that the end solo might be a bit too loud indeed.
