In case you missed the news, Cakewalk is very much alive!​

Last month, the team at BandLab Technologies were very pleased to welcome Cakewalk to the BandLab family. We’re now very close to announcing our product plans, so get ready for some more exciting news in the coming weeks!

In the meantime, it’s important that you make a BandLab account to ensure that we are able to keep track of your past purchases and ownership history. You can also sign up on your mobile device by downloading the BandLab app from the Google Play Store or the App Store.

Please jump in and do this in the next two weeks so we can tag your Cakewalk ID to your new account as we migrate databases and wind down the legacy server. Your BandLab account will be what you use to authenticate and activate the new flagship product when it is launched and will bring more features and services to your Cakewalk experience in the future.

Signing up for a BandLab account is completely free and also means you get access to the full suite of BandLab features and tools for creators.

In order to make sure you get the appropriate upgrade or crossgrades in the future, if and when they are available - please make sure that you sign up for BandLab with the same email you used for your Cakewalk products.

noob ??? lol ... reading your first post i would think you would know the answer to your own question ? why Cakewalk went bust ? right ?
Gibson brands was the OWNER of cakewalk who just happens to be Gibson Guitars my friend >>> flash update>>> their not doing so well in terms of their Guitar business /company >>> so they making cuts...Cakewalk got cut out ;) they have made other cuts aswell... their changing their line of products to electronics to better their business so they say... other DAW's have changed hands in the past too my friend and Cubase >>>one of the most popular of DAW's was one of those ;) Peace bro \m/

 

In order to sell you have to invest a lot of money into marketing and promotion and Gibson was probably never to keen about investing money into it, seeing how guitar sales in general have been hit very much.
Also not enough money was spent for development and research, add this to the first reason and you have a a very neglected product.

 

Perhaps you 've seen Steinberg, Apple, Avid, Presonus, Ableton, MOTU, Image Line, Cockos and Magix selling guitars ? If not you have your answer.
So yeah baby:

I'd call myself 'offsides' for off-topic except this thread already is more than a bit.

It seems most are viewing the the Gibson/Cakewalk thing from a software only perspective.

BUT.

In Gibsons own press releases they made it clear that they intended to merge Cakewalk into the Tascam division. A unified hard-soft-ware platform.

Okay, on the scale of things software is cheap to develop relative to the cost of tooling up for hardware. In Gibsons current financial situation it seems likely that there was no venture capital available to move forward with the Tascam hardware side of the plan. As such Gibson really had no more NEED for Cakewalk.

There is a distinct possibility that Gibson shut down Cakewalk as a show of 'good faith' to its' creditors as a way of 'cutting the fat' from the operation.

my speculation is every bit as valid as anyone elses because that is all it is. Speculation. In the end it doesn't matter a rats right testicle. Whatever happened, happened because it happened.

Just lay off on the 'Cakewalk is crap' shit. It's boring like a 5 minute drone.

You have a right to not like the way it doesn't fit into your personal workflow, but it is no worse nor better than all the other DAWs out there.

Myself? I CAN'T STAND Ableton, but I get along just fine with Cubase and DP (and S1 for the most part.) I use Pro Tools when I have to work with someone else who does, and have spent my share of time with just about anything you can think of (except Logic after it became Mac only.)

Point being?
