Here’s a video from Musikmesse showcasing the awesome multi-touch support in FL Studio 11. Use it to jam out your arrangement or for live performing your sets on supported monitors. This looks to be very instant and very responsive, is this a sneak peek into the future of digital music making? Imagine it being ported to our portable devices as well…

They keep talking about it...and talking about it...and talking about it. Where is it already? I assume that it will be released on the 1st of May like it says on their website but who knows? Honestly, I appreciate some of the new features but what FL Studio really needs is a complete rewrite. Or at the very least they should overhaul the pathetic mixer that they have going on and fix the millions of bugs. I use it for composing and testing out ideas but I would never use it for anything more than that because of all its shortcomings, some of which are showstoppers for me.

Imageline is starting to get ridiculous.

I mean wouldn't you just use the well known ableton live for these kinds of things ?

This new feature in flstudio may be enough for image line to "justify" the "new" version being 11.

However , I have been FL user since around FL5 , and long time users such as myself are left sitting here asking , (Q) When are we going to get proper mono channels with a better panning algorithm ? (Q) when will they fix Automatic Plugin Delay Compensation so it actually works ? etc.. etc...

I could even go further to mention some of my own personal suggestions which would be things like , let us record into automation clips instead of edit events only , try building the automation lanes into the tracks themselfs like every other daw etc etc...

Im quite frustrated by all this lol , im investigating into switching to Reaper :)

Exactly! Also how about a freakin' freeze function and for the love of god the mixer...when will they create a real mixer? They're just now doing betas of 64-bit builds and from what I hear the instability is horrendous. They just keep adding glitter and fluff to the outdated code base when what it needs is a complete rewrite. These are like basic DAW features but just like everything in the 21st century...all flash, no substance. They don't even take complaints seriously because they have this "well you only paid once" attitude. If it came down to paying a little extra for a working DAW I would prefer that over something being practically useless. I've experimented a little with Reaper but it also had nonsense at the outset...scanning VSTs, like in FL Studio, is prone to causing crashing for some apparent reason. I had to do it like 10 times to get it to finally complete. I'm also not too keen on the interface but I hear that it's awfully powerful, flexible and efficient. Personally I prefer Cubase 5 and as soon as I build a better system I am thinking of purchasing Cubase 7 as it looks pretty fucking sweet to me. The mixer alone is a beauty to work with particularly in version 7. I get better performance, it supports 64-bit if you need that, they created the VST standard so there's better compatibility, it can be customized in a million different ways to suit your workflow, etc. It has its problems too, as all DAWs do, but I think it has a very rich feature set and if you have a good system and spring for version 7 you will be pleased.

Yep , all these new un-necessary features will just bug out flstudio more then anything I think.

I agree cubase is great , but I simply can't afford it and im not a fan of dongle protections (I try not to support such things.

The most appealing thing about Reaper to me is how they "listen" to the community (users of the product) and implement some changes wanted by the majorities. Was there anything you didn't like about it in-particular and what version was it when you tried it ?

It looks like it can do it all , but never know until I try it.

Yeah it is expensive but I think with Cubase the price is totally justified. It's the kind of purchase that will go a long way because if I am still fine with version 5 about 4 years later then you can imagine how far 7 would go for you. It is one of the most powerful DAWs out right now and version 7 gave it a much needed facelift. I totally agree with you concerning dongle protections and I also try not to support companies that implement this nonsense. The problem is I'm sure they're not really feeling that pain because people really like their product so they figure it is justified to protect it from being cracked. My problem with it is also that it creates unnecessary overhead and eats up system resources. That alone should warrant abandoning this ilok bullshit. If money is an issue you can always try out version 5 and see if it works for you. I definitely wish that it looked like the new version but they were doing in 2009 what some DAWs still aren't getting around to implementing so I'll take functionality over flash any day.

Reaper for sure has a really great community and the developers really listen to them. Not to mention the price of a license is dirt cheap and you can even use the full product before purchasing if you don't mind the nag screen. I tried it a bunch of times throughout the product's life cycle but just recently I experimented a little with 4.32. The new version is at 4.33 so it really wasn't that long ago but hey give it a shot. What do you have to lose? It might really gel with you even with the occasional minor nuisance.

Holographic and direct psychic thought transmission to DAW is the future of music performing.

    :P

and someone has to stand up for FL Studio here, so i guess i will be the one to do it-

I use Ableton, Cubase, Studio One and FL STudio- and have tried almost every DAW out there- and i gotta say i love FL Studio as much as the rest of the "big expensive" DAWs

i've never had a problem with PDC or system instability, the only time it has crashed for me was when i installed some badly cracked vsts.. plus it starts up in like 2 seconds ready to go.. of course with any daw there are features i with it had like said better mixer and i would like to be able to automate anything anytime- i know you can tweak last used parameter but it still doesnt work on everything..

im concerned the new features will indeed bog it down or add "bloat"... that's why reapers incredible 26 megs install is pretty amazing

that being said, looks like FLStudio 11 is going to give its live performers some nice features to compete with ableton's impressive live performance oriented features

THIS! I started with FL in v 1.somewhat when it was a toy. It became a good daw, but it lacks on several pro features. there are also alot of unfixed bugs since YEARS and they are not willing to fix, no, just add more and more not fully working features. This multitouch thing is neat, but necessary? Did YOU, you as FL user, waited for THIS feature? I guess not. Even PDC is not working correctly...

LIve, Reaper, Cubase... best working daws out there!
