Very nice machine, but you could've save some bucks with the processor. I understood that I7 offers nothing new unless you work with graphics so I would've choose I5 and the money difference is considerable after all. But good choices indeed.

I believe you but I wanted the best :dunno:

I had a quad core i5 in my previous machine. It worked well enough but I was starting to run into some limitations with it. It was getting older though, I'm not even sure what model anymore and the tower isn't plugged in at the moment for me to check. It ran at 3.2 GHz if I recall. This new one runs at 4.5 GHz (OC'd of course) while still being very stable.

    Here
Look for one whose processor allows multithreading, and at least 16GB of RAM

Z170-DELUXE would fit my needs, but the price tag is about $100 more. :dunno:

I'm extremely happy with it. The difference in speed is night and day, but lots of things contribute to that. Every part is an upgrade - most significantly (aside from the processor), the SSD. But the 6700k definitely smokes my 3.0 GHz i5. CPU never goes above 40-50% even though I completely disregard economy of resources.

It's always fun watching it boot up. If I blink, I might miss the Windows loading screen :)

Just had a new pc put together. I was using a laptop with an i5 4200m processor and 8 gb of ram on Win 8.1. This struggled a bit with 30 tracks or so in Ableton with third party vst's that'd also utilise sidechain, eqing, effects etc from third party plugs.

New tower has skylake I7 6700 processor, 16gb ddr4 ram, 1tb Samsung ssd with a medium powered graphics card. Can't remember what make. Have Win 7 running on it. This is so much better and faster. Worth the extra investment I'd say. Using a Focusrite 2i2 for an audio interface.

Indeed man, Indeed. Putting on one's absolute essentials audio wise on the system drive then creating a backup image is one of the things that I do after making sure that I've got an image of the new setup just plain/as it is before doing anything else. I'm in dire need of a new laptop with a bit of a kick CPU wise along with an SSD for the OS/system drive, I'm not short on shekel's but I've just had no chance to go looking around after recently moving house. Pretty much all my gear is in a secure lock up for now and good thing too, The garage which is a decent sized double type gave up it's secrets with the heavy rain fall by leaking like some poor bastard's dead or dying carcass after having a full Uzi magazine spent into it! All in the area I plan/have allocated for my humble home setup too, That was some good luck as the old bitch that sold us this place didn't mention the garage was leaking, I can't stand dishonest people as it was a question I asked more than once and extremely politely, Just so I would know. The family much prefer the new place even though there is less space living wise but more garden space, So I can't complain on that front. Pleased to hear people enjoying the benefits of new rig's paying off for them, That's all good :)

All the best and to all as always

Man I'm a paralegal... If I had a nickel for every time I heard this story... well I'd probably only have five bucks or so, but you get the point.

If you haven't seen a lawyer about it and were planning to, I'll save you the $50 for a consult, or whatever they charge in your area. 99% chance says there's nothing anyone can do for you. Almost all real estate contracts contain a clause that the premises are sold "As is". If you bought from a realtor, it's even worse. Most of them have clauses in there to the effect that they can't even be held responsible for representations made about the condition of the house. In other words, they can outright lie to you. If you didn't demand that the contract language be changed, you're shit out of luck.

Sorry, and ... you're welcome? lol
