PACE, the makers of iLok, are announcing the new 3rd generation iLok. Its half the size of an iLok2, its twice as fast as the iLok2 and can hold 3 times as many licenses as the second generation iLok.

    iLok3 Features
    • Full Metal Jacket - One piece extruded aluminum frame. This iLok will not split or crack under normal circumstances. There is still a blue LED indicator light.
    • Embossed Logo - Security with style, an embossed logo makes counterfeiting extremely difficult. End users can purchase with confidence that the device is legit.
    • Actual Size - The 3rd Generation iLok measures 1.5 inches x 0.5 inches. It fits into any standard USB port.
    • Etched Serial Number - The etched serial number is clearly visible, large and is designed to not easily rub off.
    • Security Loop - It is a little wider and stronger, and most desktop security cables should fit through this loop.
    • Price & Availability - The MSRP will be $49.95 and we understand that it will be available immediately from iLok.com, although it may take a few days before dealers have stock.

They heavily emphasize the physical aspect of their product but aren't discussing the improvement of the algorithm which let me think that it might not be a revolution, just an evolution of the 2nd one.

Time will tell if I'm right.

Right, just a bigger faster fancy looking flashdrive to match your Mac? I wonder too. I never owned a 1st gen iLok. Did you have to upgrade then, when iLok2 came out?
    But really, faster?
Checking your licenses a few milliseconds faster, LoL

Ilok has become merely a device to transport your licenses, because the protection part...a, a ...no use any more.
I am really curious about december and e-licenser(Cubase 8, or 9?)...if not available till then, then the modern crackers/hackers cant do it.

These protections sound so gay and boring
I remember Rocco (porn actor) saying something along these lines (not precise words):

If you put a movie for 1 €, people will stop pirate it or download it illegally. Why would you, it's just 1 €. Instead, sales will go up because more people will buy it since it's just 1 €. Even if half a million people buy it, you get 500.000 €. You can't really fight them, if people want to share and spread these things, they will, no matter at what cost

Now that's an extreme example but I think something similar should be done everywhere, especially in this area where everything is volatile. It's just a bunch of numbers in a machine that let you make or modify sounds. Why would I pay so much? It's getting ridiculous and out of hand and I can't wait to see these people burn (figuratively, obviously).

(end of little rant, now go with that red or thumbs down button)

actually i agree. when quality products are cheap and have little or no protection. ie, valhalla dsp, klanghelm, audio damage, horn3t,etc. i am very willing to buy them, and i am sure people who do have pirated software installed (i dont, anymore) would probably want to buy them too. whereas with $300 software that requires an annoying $50 dongle plugged in ALL the time, well obviously no one wants to pay for that- its just asking to be cracked

As long as dongles don't become a requirement for plugs currently protected by soft ilok, idgaf. Let them skip 4 and bring ilok 5, a small bluetooth implant in your groin that sends your heat signature to the license manager. Means nothing to me. I don't buy dongle-only plugins. Too many alternatives on the market to support a company that forces me to pay someone else an extra $50 to protect their interests.

AFAIR you told us you already have Cubase8 - so I guess you have it on a dongle - so whats the point waiting for a crack and why should december month in perticular have such an importense if it can be cracked or not?

Because many of my friends would like to try it out. Many thought it would have been cracked in december 2015 so perhaps this time it will be.
It doesnt change any thing for me as i need a legit version due to licensing issues, but would be interesting to see what will happen since its pretty much the last protection that hasnt been cracked yet.

I wonder if Slate is going to make their subscription members jump through hoops now to get the new plugs he's yet to release but promoting. Wouldn't be shocked if this was what he's been waiting on the official iLok 3 announcement.

    There´s always a solution .... I guess :)

fair enough but I dont agree with your point of view with regard to your last point about protection. There's a lot that still needs overhaul crack-wise!
